Roblox Studio | Beginner (Part 1 of 4)

Greetings Developers!

I have seen increase in need of basic studio knowledge for many new developers. Referring YouTube and/or experimenting is a good way but could be time taking, hence I would like to add my tutorial portraying the SIMPLEST way to know about all important features of Roblox Studio!

So letss get started  !

Feature 1

This is the HOME tab, consisting of

  • Clipboard : Used to paste/copy/cut a model or even duplicate a given material!
  • Tools :
  1. Select - Helps to select an object or toggle around studio
  2. Move - Helps to move an object at right angled directions (up, down, left, right)
  3. Scale - Helps to increase or decrease the visible size of an object
  4. Rotate - Helps to turn/rotate an object in a 360 degree margin
  • Terrain : Used to add a 3 dimensional terrain support which can be used to match the game design and theme!
  • Insert :
  1. Toolbox : A very useful feature for beginners which allows the user to use a model made and published by another dev in his/her game.
  2. Part : Allows the user to spawn a particular shape block
  3. UI : Allows the user to add GUIs under explorer
  • Edit :
  1. Material : Allows user to change/add a materialistic texture to the selected item
  2. Color : Allows user to change material color from a template
  • Test/Team test : Allows developers to test their gameplay created. (Note : Some features like teleportation can NOT be tested via this feature)

  • Game Settings : Can be accessed once the game is published. It allows the user to amend certain default settings like localization , avatars etc (developer based)

Feature 2

As of part 1, we will be discussing Workspace, Lighting , ServerScriptService and Chat

  • Workspace : Contains Camera and terrain by default. ANY OTHER external object is automatically added here and it the typical โ€œbox of itemsโ€ which can be rearranged into specified folders!
  • Lighting : An interesting feature to control the lighting influence in-game. This includes atmosphere, visibility etc. It should be adjusted to the theme or genre of the game for the best usage
  • ServerScriptService : In simple words, a folder for all the messy work! Jokes aside, it is used by developers to store important scripts so that they can be managed later on without clutter in the workspace
*Chat : Used to amplify chat features (bubble chat , custom tags etc) and is communication based to increase game impression

Feature 3

The last feature included into developing as default (considering new devs)
We would be getting deeper into this in further parts as it is a lil bit complicated but we can say it is the engine room of everything we do in studio! Everything is managed here cause this is where values and specifications are made for ALL components used in developing! (Excluding scripts which can be managed via codes)

End of Part-1

I hope this would be useful for the new developers out there learning from the community!
I would also request the pros of forum out there to point out my mistakes and add ur changes!

Thank you

Good post. I personally learned how to use Roblox Studio on my own, but this can really help out a beginner

I assume many new people to studio will find this inviting, keep it up.

Good tutorial, but maybe in the future parts at the end you should make a quick tutorial/example of making something using the parts that you talked about, so beginners can really see how the tools are applied.

[EDIT:] The building / scripting parts, not something like chat of course.

You must have worked hard over self-learning!

I hope it does, we are always looking forward to new people in the community

Yep, would definitely do that!

Thank you so much for your kind feedbacks

Yep self-learning took years of just playing around with features and getting comfortable with it all. Iโ€™m not the best but I can make something decent if I really needed to
