Roblox Studio can't open new places within itself

When attempting to open a new place within Roblox Studio (e.g. going to File > New), it refuses to launch a new Studio instance. This is also the case for opening in-experience places within Asset Manager which is pretty disruptive. Stuff like starting local servers and Team Test works fine, so no clue why this doesn’t work.

I already tried to re-install Roblox Studio numerous times & cleared all it’s files and registry keys, all plugins are disabled, disabled all beta features - pretty much everything but to no avail.

Hi there, we’ve repaired an issue with Open from Roblox recently, I’m wondering if this is somewhat related. It might be fairly local to your setup if not, as we cannot reproduce on our end. Is this still happening?

Hello,

Yes, unfortunately this is still occurring for me.

Shot in the dark, but I’m wondering if there’s some odd permission thing happening here. Can you attempt a test running studio under admin and see if that has different behavior for “New”. Also, is it just “new” that’s having this issue, or does “Open From Roblox” also not work?

I’ve tried running Roblox Studio as admin and the issue still remains sadly.

This is the case for anything that requires Studio to open another instance of itself so it’s not only limited to the “New” thing, it affects “Open” and even the “Update Now” button whenever there’s an update for Studio available, which forces me to completely uninstall/re-install Studio in order to actually apply that update.

Hey, good news! I’ve managed to find the culprit

You were right, it’s definitely some sort of weird permission thing going on - uninstalling Studio and running the Roblox Studio installer as administrator did resolve my issue, although it’s pretty weird as this problem has only started happening after a specific 24H2 update, I haven’t had any issues prior to it with the installation of Studio that I had.

Either way, Thank You for your help!

Hey, shot in the dark sometimes lands! Just to understand better so we can add this to our QA regressions - you first started seeing this after an update AFTER you had upgraded to Win11 24H2? Or was it a fresh install after your OS upgrade?

Yes that’s correct, after I updated from 23H2 > 24H2, Studio still worked fine, then after some 24H2 update came around that’s when it stopped working.

I’ve done a bit more research on this and I actually found out that Microsoft did in fact have some issues with Roblox which they mentioned in their update notes so it could be something related to that.
