Roblox Studio is installing an outdated version

I’ve been getting this error for a while whenever I open studio.
When I open Roblox Studio it freezes for a bit and then pops up an error saying: This version of Roblox Studio is out of date and must be reinstalled. Please close all instances of Roblox Studio & reinstall from: Create - Roblox. It looks like Roblox is just installing an outdated version of Studio instead of the newest one

The thing is, I tried everything to fix this problem and I still cant fix it. I unistalled and reinstalled Roblox from the website, cleared web cache, checked the firewall, deleted temp files, everything I could think of and find online.

Here is a screenshot of the error:

And also a screenshot of the Roblox versions (not sure if it helps)

This is a weird issue that I’m not aware of a fix. Looks like you tried everything I already thought of. You could try to contact Roblox support and they might have a solution.

Getting the same error, and no idea how to fix it

Would recommend contacting Roblox support if you haven’t, it’s worth a shot.

Anyone fixed this yet? I’m on my 3rd email from support and they still aren’t finding the issue. Basically I’ve tried port forwarding on router, completely disabling firewall, and rebooting amongst a few other things and still nothin’

Has anyone resolved this issue? Been experiencing it myself for a few days now on my Mac (Ventura 13.01). Tried reinstalling multiple times including after deleting all studio files and nothing seems to rectify it, works perfectly fine on my Windows Machine.

What I would probably do is uninstall Roblox Studio and the Roblox Player. Then delete the Roblox folder in your AppData Local folder. Then reinstall them both. It will reset your studio settings.

You also could go to the Creator Dashboard and get a new Roblox Studio copy that way too by clicking download studio button.

Wouldn’t this erase all settings and cache in Roblox Studio and the Roblox player?

Yea but I done this before and it does seem to fix some problems so I think it would be worth a shot.

I am not experiencing this so I can’t guarantee that this will work

Hey everyone! I successfully fixed this issue on my setup after about 10 emails back/forth with Roblox support. I’m listing all steps recommended in case it works for anyone here. Although for me it was the last recommendation that worked.

  1. (didn’t work) Uninstall Roblox Studio, reboot, and reinstall Roblox studio.

  2. (didn’t work) Check OS (Windows in my case) Proxy settings and make sure OS system clock is setup to synchronize. Link

  3. (didn’t work) Check Router and make sure port forwarding is setup properly. Check Firewall settings and make sure Roblox isn’t being blocked. And of course check that you have an internet connection. Then reboot and reinstall Roblox Studio Link

  4. (didn’t work) This:
    steps

  5. (WORKED!!!) Create a new OS (Windows in my case) user account. Install Roblox Studio under the new account… and bam you are back in business. Info for creating a new user account: Link

I really hope this helps anyone else who happens to find this thread in the future. Is it annoying that I have to use another user account to run Roblox Studio… umm heck ya. But at least I can keep developing again. Maybe a dev will eventually figure out what this bug is and maybe it won’t be a problem in the future.

But for now, a new user it will be!

I also had this problem.
But I solved it, it seems that it was because the time of my computer was wrong when the editor was updated and I set the time back a few days for some other reason. Then when the time was adjusted back, the editor had this problem.
My solution was to keep the computer’s time backward a few days so that the editor would start normally. Then until the real time catches up with the computer’s time, that is, just use the real time and the problem will be solved.

I did the same thing deleting all my studio files and still have no luck on my mac.

i found the way to fix, download the roblox studio installing file from other browser (Internet Explorer, Microsoft Edge)

I just encountered this issue, I can’t believe they haven’t even attempted to fix such a fundamental bug after all this time.

Solution: Open Appdata (search %appdata% in windows search menu), this should bring you to C:\Users\user_name\AppData\Roaming. Go back one in the file directory to just AppData. Find Local folder.
Open Roblox in local
Find Versions folder
Sort by “date modified” in the file explorer to find the most recently modified version. Delete that version folder.
Open roblox studio again and it should detect that you are using an outdated version,
(itll automatically run the second most recent version folder after you deleted the most recent)
now that since your older version should have been working in the past, it will run properly, prompting roblox studio to update and reinstall the current version

my guess is that this error happens when roblox tries to update to the current version, but somehow corrupts the freshly downloaded version while downloading it, so everytime you open studio it opens the current (and corrupted) version folder, giving the error

thats why deleting the most recent version folder and going back to the previous working version works

also after deleting the most recent version opening studio wont work from start menu, from the versions folder you should see “robloxstudiolauncherbeta” application, just open that

Just delete and reinstall Roblox Studio. That worked for me (on Mac).

I just encountered this issue as well? I tried the steps you provided and it works as a temporary fix but when I try to open another studio instance it shows the same error.

Do you know a work-a-round?

Same issue for me on Windows 11. Looks like everyone is having this issue. Please tell me if there’s a solution available.
