Roblox Studio Lagging on my PC

Hello!

I’m having a very bizarre issue on Roblox Studio as of late, when ever I open a project or even a default template, Roblox studio seems to get incredibly choppy and it’s really limiting how much I can use the program. I know It’s definitely not my game projects themselves, as opening them in the Roblox Player gives no problems and there’s no lag. I have a decent PC and it’s far over Roblox’s minimum requirements I’m sure.

I activated the diagnostics bar at the bottom right hand side of the screen and it tells me I’m reaching the max frame rate, but it doesn’t appear that way. I believe this may be an issue with my graphics, but that’s very odd since it’s been updated to the most recent driver version, and I’ve tried it with both Game Ready & Studio Drivers. I’m also fairly certain it starts to get worse the longer I’m in Studio, it’s also only just started acting like this, beforehand it would work just fine.

What I’ve tried so far:

  1. Re-Installing Roblox Studio (tried this twice in fact.)
  2. Tried Studio on another computer that has worse specs than my own, works just fine.
  3. Updated my graphics drivers, tried both Game & Studio ready drivers.
  4. Switched graphics mode on the Rendering tab of studio, and lowered the graphics level as well.
  5. Changed my monitor’s refresh rate.
  6. Deleted older versions of the Roblox Player & Studio.
  7. Switched studio to High Performance for my GPU. (Which improved it slightly, but there’s still very noticeable lag.)
  8. Update all plugins, then I also tried disabling them all.

My PC specs are:

  • CPU: AMD Ryzen 5 4500 6-Core Processor, 3.60 GHz.
  • GPU: NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3050, 6GB.
  • RAM: 16GB DDR4.
  • Operating System: Windows 11 Home Edition, 24H2.

Any help would be incredibly appreciated, surely I’m not the only one having this issue? Thanks!

when you open the windows task manager while inside a default template, does anything pop up with an unusualy high usage %?

If this is while in the editor and when you click play it goes back to normal you might wanna try this is you have a Nvidia GPU:

  1. Open Nvidia Control Panel
  2. Go To Manage 3D Settings
  3. Switch From “Global Settings” To “Program Settings”
  4. Click The program dropdown and select the roblox player. (Might be called Roblox VR, Roblox or robloxplayerbeta)
  5. Change Max Framerate to OFF and Change Vsync To off
  6. Hit Apply and relaunch studio

Other things to try:

  • Check if you have the hdmi plugged into the GPU and not the mobo if its a desktop pc
  • Check Taskmanger for the load of the gpu (CTRL + SHIFT + ESC > Performance)
  • Disable Optimization for windowed games in the windows settings (System > Display > Graphics > Change default graphics settings) [This is what caused similar issues on my win 11 laptop]

Nothing, there’s no bottlenecks, no unusual high activity, I definitely think it’s to do with graphics or something.

No idea then. Try reseting all studio settings to make sure it has nothing to do with anything you might have changed

LEGEND! Thank you so much. I disabled the Optimization for Windowed Games and studio no longer lags.
