Roblox Studio suddenly laggy

  1. What do you want to achieve?
I would like to be able to work in Roblox Studio with a higher fps than 10.

  2. What is the issue?
A project I have been working on for a while now has suddenly gotten extremely slow while working on it in Roblox Studio. Used to be 60 fps in the editor now it hovers around 10 fps or lower. This happened rather suddenly. I had a 3 Parts selected, duplicated them then undid that and bam the frame rate dropped and it has not been back to normal yet.

The actual project when run is very smooth, no framerate issues. All other programs on my computer run fine.

  1. What solutions have you tried so far?
  • Restarted Roblox Studio
  • Reset Roblox Studio settings
  • Tried various studio settings (Frame rate manager, rendering graphic modes, etc)
  • Uninstalled roblox studio and reinstalled
  • Rebooted my computer
  • Disabled G-Sync for windowed mode and completely
  • Made sure graphics drivers were OK
  • Made sure only one Roblox Studio process was active.
  • Monitored my GPU (20% usage), CPU (15% usage) and memory (18GB free out of 32GB) ( (nothing was maxed out )
  • Hard drives have plenty of free space (100GB+free)
  • Made sure Roblox Studio was running on an SSD drive.

I would like to point out that my computer is not a potato. This project was running smoothly in the editor just seconds before it went downhill.

Not sure what else to try, is there a Roblox Studio cache I can clear somewhere?

Did you try to reinstall studio? If you could give your computer specs it would be easier to help.

Yes, as listed above it was one of the solutions I tried.

My computer specs shouldn’t really matter at this point as this exact project was running absolutely smoothly on my current computer a split second before it went downhill. No updates happened, no hardware changes occurred.

But FWIW:
Windows 10 Pro
32 GB RAM
3.7ghz cpu 6 cores, 12 logical processors
RTX 2080
SSD drives

So I was able to fix the issue.

I removed the following directory:
c:\Users<username>\AppData\Local\Roblox\

Upon restarting roblox my project is back to a smooth 60fps in the roblox studio editor.
I don’t think I needed to remove that directory completely, it was most likely just some sub directory in there I needed to remove, I just don’t know which one.

I would like to also note I tried removing all plugins before attempting this and that did not fix the problem either.

Just wanted to post another update here. Suddenly Roblox Studio decided to lag again.
Deleting the Roblox directory did not work this time. I decided to go one step further and wiped out the roblox studio registry entry (made a backup first). Now it’s running smoothly again.

No clue what Roblox is doing, but something they store in the registry or that Roblox directory messes up the performance of Roblox Studio once it loads in.

Hello,

I am also having this exact weird issue too. I used to be running comepletly smoothly, the way I always have it. But all of a sudden one day when I was running things complely normal, it just had the most lowest frame rate i’ve ever experienced, and its been slowing my work flow down severely.

Could you tell me how you were able to resolve this issue?
Would be great to know.

Warning:
Before trying any of this backup your roblox directory you are going to delete and backup the registry key (export it) before wiping it out. Make sure you know what you are doing with the registry editor as you can majorly mess up your computer if you do something wrong in there.

You will lose certain settings in Roblox Studio, so make sure to take note of the font style you have, highlighting colors, etc… Your recently opened projects will be missing as well, so you will manually have to find them through the My Games / Group Games / Shared with Me sections.

Also make sure you project files are backed up as well, shouldn’t be necessary but just in case.

Once you are sure everything is backed up and you know your previous studio settings you want to restore you can move on to the following steps:

Make sure all instances of roblox studio have been closed with the task manager (end task if needed)

First try deleting this directory:
c:\Users\AppData\Local\Roblox\

If that doesn’t work then try deleting this registry key with regedit:
Computer\HKEY_CURRENT_USER\SOFTWARE\Roblox\RobloxStudio

I just had to delete my registry key again today as this is the 3rd time now it’s slowed down on me since posting this issue.

Once again, if you don’t feel comfortable doing any of this on your computer then don’t cause you could mess some stuff up majorily.
