Hi Everyone.
All of a sudden, both Roblox Player and Roblox Studio are very laggy on my laptop only. It is intermittent with Player so game play may go smoothly for a bit then it stutters and lags badly so that games are unplayable until it ends maybe 10-15 seconds later (or seemingly at random) and may happen over and over. I can’t test games on Roblox Studio because the lag is so bad. I’ve noticed that when the stuttering/lagging occurs, the GPU performance drops to 0 or near 0 all of a sudden. See arrows below.
Here is the GPU percentages when it is functioning more smoothly. But notice all the drops before that:
What appears to have happened:
I had Seagate Toolkit installed on my Laptop. It had a pop up message regarding an update. So I went ahead with it. A bit of time passed and no message popped up so I assumed the update had completed and I shut down my Laptop.
The next morning when I started up my Laptop, I got a pop up message about errors with Seagate’s toolkit. So it appears I may have interrupted the Toolkit update when I shut down my laptop. Sorry I didn’t get a screen shot! I also can’t locate it in EventViewer. I dismissed the error and then I went to play Roblox with my daughter. The stuttering and lagging was very bad. It doesn’t affect other games on my laptop, only Roblox Player and Studio and it is worse on Studio.
I have Windows 11 and my Laptop is an MSI GE72 2QE Apache Pro.
What I’ve tried so far:
- Restarting my laptop.
- Checking task manager for apps that are using too many resources
- Disabling apps in the Startup menu that don’t need to run automatically
- Uninstalling then reinstalling Toolkit. It is now uninstalled
- Uninstalling and reinstalling Roblox Studio and Roblox Player (multiple times)
- Deleting the Roblox folder in C:\Users[UserID]\AppData\Local
- Deleting as many temporary files as I could
- Ran System File Checker (SFC) from within Windows.
It appears that something is running in the background on the C drive that is throttling the data going to the GPU. There is nothing obvious in Task Manager. I’ve tried looking for a way to contact Seagate and it looks like I would end up in an online queue. Given that the queue is only open during business hours and I live in Australia, this means joining the queue at 11pm. So this is not very feasible, plus there is no guarantee they’ll be able to help as this is a very Roblox-specific problem, although somehow caused by an issue on my laptop.
I’m really hoping I don’t have to reinstall Windows as I have a heap of apps that I would also need to reinstall and it would take a long time to get back up and fully running.
Does anyone have any suggestions about how to find what could be causing the Roblox stuttering/lag, where it is and potentially how to fix this?
