Roblox Universal App directs You to Internet Explorer once Clicking to a Social Media Account of a Roblox's Player

Reproduction Steps

  1. Open your Roblox application (make sure it is the universal app);
  2. Search for a user that contains multiple social media linked to their account and is visible to everyone (for this case, I searched for @Abcreator);
  3. Click on the icon of the player and select the option to see the full view of the account;
  4. Once having the full scene, select any available social media of the user by clicking on their logo.

Expected Behavior

I expected that I would be able to see the majority of the social links of the user.

Actual Behavior
After analysing Abcreator’s profile and clicking on one of his social media accounts (Twitter), not only I was not able to see it but it opened an old version of a browser, Internet Explorer (which is discontinued and optimised into Microsoft Edge):

We’ve filed a ticket to our internal database for this issue, and will come back as soon as we have updates!

Thanks for the report!

This is intended behavior (for opening an IE window), because IE is the browser that is used in the app. I’ve had the beta for a year, and I found out it was IE because of the properties window.

Also, are you sure it’s the universal app and not the desktop app? The universal app runs on XBox and you can get it from the Microsoft Store.

However, Roblox is also at fault here for not providing us with MS Edge WebView support yet (however, it is available in studio at the moment, so I expect it to roll out in a few months).

Okay, so I did a little bit of further research, and it seems that I originally was saying that it is occurring in the beta app. However, it also seems to be having the same issue for the universal application as well. :grimacing: (I am trying to see if I can change the title of the topic, but somehow it does not let me do it rather than just for the description.)

This bug is still occurring, and prevents you from seeing certain pages on the website:

I know, but to have links that open in Edge, use the UWP (Microsoft Store) app

The post says they are using the “universal app” (aka UWP or “Universal Windows Platform”), and it doesn’t matter if it works on a different app because it’s broken on one that people are forced to use, and sometimes doesn’t even work on pages of Roblox’s own website! (see my reply above yours.)

I wouldn’t consider this a bug anymore. I mean, what if the user doesn’t have any browser installed (which would be RIDICULOUS, but it could happen)?

The Window Form method used for the embedded browser appears to not be deprecated, while IE is.

Just to add, IE is “removed” from Windows 11, if you were to run “iexplore” in the run box it would open edge. This is one of the only ways to open internet explorer on Windows 11. This wouldnt even happen if Roblox didn’t realese the app with missing features where they just had to add a WebView window to the Website.

They could, but the IE window form is “embedded” into the app. It’s like it contains its own version of IE.

After months and moving on to another computer where it contains Windows 11, it seems that Internet Explorer still remains once clicking on a social media player (still using @Abcreator as a sample for the bug):

Again, it’s not a bug. It just shouldn’t show the social links in the first place if the browser is not compatible.

Hey everyone! Thanks for the post. Seems like this isn’t a bug, so I’m gonna close the thread.
