Roblox update bricks client on Mac OSX

After today’s update, both me and another coworker had our Roblox clients bricked on Mac OSX on two separate computers. Roblox no longer shows up in Finder near the top, and if you do click it, it shows 'You can’t open the application “Roblox” because it may be damaged or incomplete".

Reinstalling from the website (Version 0.589.0.5890595 (5890595)) seems to work. Note that the damaged client was also 0.589.0.5890595 according to the Mac OSX inspector. I’m on MacOS Ventura 13.5 (22G74), not sure what my coworker was on but I suspect a similar version.

Note that during today’s update, I saw two update dialogues, one in front of another, so perhaps they had some kind of race condition when updating and ended up in this state. I have compressed the damaged Roblox client and can provide that upon request.

Apologies for filing under Engine, there wasn’t any option for desktop clients. Feel free to move if necessary.

Expected behavior

Roblox client opens successfully.

I also had this same issue. When updating Roblox, it opened two updaters at the same time and my client was bricked afterwards.

I resolved this issue by doing a fresh install of Roblox.

Hopefully Roblox Eng can stem the bleeding soon, this type of bug is never fun to remediate as it requires a lot of action on the part of the user, and the available metrics are probably just a slow loss of users on Mac. Good luck SRE team!

Hello! We believe that this issue was resolved by a configuration change that was deployed on August 10 at 9:56AM PST. Can you confirm whether the issue is still occurring or not?

After re-downloading the client I haven’t seen similar issues, though I don’t recall whether or not I’ve seen an update dialog. Once 590 ships I’ll report here if I see a problem with the update.

Thanks! We believe that we have fixed the underlying root-cause and the same issue should not appear in the 590 release (even once the feature is re-enabled).

590 came out and it was fine. Thanks for digging into the issue!
