Roblox's animate script does not have an impact on default character animation (R6)

I usually use custom animations. Today I have attempted to use the default ones, however the script “animate” which resides inside of the player model, does not have any impact on animations.

The general guide on the internet is to copy and paste the “animate” script into StarterCharacterScripts and then edit it from there.

The problem is that no matter what I do to this script; changing the weight values of the animation, deleting all the animation IDs for a humanoid state, or even deleting the script itself on the server. None of those things have any impact on the character’s animation. Almost as if the animate script is not what is handling the animations for a default R6 character.

I also tested this with a completely new and blank R6 character, and it is not affected by the animate script either.
