"Rooms: Found Footage" - WR Submission Rules

Overview

Recently after having been promoted by a YouTuber with around 3,000 subscribers, I’ve decided to make a rule set for claiming the world record for the furthest amount of rooms reached in my game Rooms: Found Footage. If you haven’t yet, you can play it here: Rooms: Found Footage - Roblox

To prevent cheaters from trying to submit falsified WR runs, here are some rules that must be followed if you wish to have your username on the game’s front page. These rules only apply to runs that are WR, not PB.

Holders of the world record for any section will appear on the Wall of Fame in the lobby and have access to a special golden flashlight in-game.

Also note that WR holders can either be one individual person or a group of people, so long as everyone is alive when the world record is called by either all players dying in-game or all players agreeing to stop upon reaching an agreed-upon room. For groups of people, all people in the group will receive an instance of the Golden Flashlight.

Anyway, here are the rules:

  1. Runs must have publicly viewable video evidence on any of the following platforms: YouTube, Dailymotion, Twitch, Kick, Vimeo, Streamable, Odysee, Google Drive, Dropbox, or MEGA. Both pre-recorded uploads and live streams are permitted.
Video evidence provided via any other platform will not be eligible for WR. If you choose to use Google Drive, Dropbox, or MEGA, only *.mp4 or *.wmv file formats will be accepted.
Please note you do not have to be the recorder; a friend can record for you as long as they are alive for the entire run (or, alternatively, are recording your gameplay from outside the game via a Discord screen share or similar).
@CatzRule_81 is not bound by this rule, but is expected to adhere to the “honor system” to the best of his ability.

  2. Videos for proof must not be over 4 hours in length; however, you can upload the run in multiple parts. If you choose to do this, rule 3 will only apply to the last uploaded article of video evidence. This allows me to better preserve my sanity watching exceptionally long challenge runs.

  3. The last 500 doors of the run, or the last 1 hour of the video, whichever is shorter, must not be sped up or significantly edited. Non-obtrusive edits, such as small text displayed on screen, your live stream overlay, or YouTube channel branding icon are acceptable. As an example, imposing a watermark on more than 20% of screen space is not permitted.

  4. The maximum speed up you may apply to an uploaded piece of video evidence for your run is 20x speed. If you are not applying a speed up of at least 2x to your video, muting the audio of the video is not permitted.

  5. If, for any reason, you cannot complete a full length WR run in one game session, you are allowed to use the “Reset Character” function to “save” your progress in compliance with these rules. Certain conditions must be met; for more information, read the “Reset Save” rules section below.

  6. Using the Shift+F3 debug menu (moving parts counter) is not allowed. All other debug menus (including Performance Stats) are still okay to use.

  7. The usage of any malicious external program (for example, exploit clients) are not allowed.
Additionally, while glitches that do not require external programs to perform are allowed, you are not allowed to intentionally take an action that would place you “out of bounds” unless such an action is required due to a softlock (or similar).

  8. Non-malicious modifications to the Roblox client such as FPS unlockers are allowed.
However, reshaders are only allowed if they are not configured in a way that gives you an unfair advantage (example here).

  9. Unless explicitly stated otherwise by @CatzRule_81, or as necessary for WR runs in compliance with Rule 5 above, the usage of “admin Interference” is not allowed. The same rules also apply to using the development build of the game for a WR run.

  10. Using checkpoints is allowed. However, the checkpoint used must be before the world record door. Your starting room will vary based on if the current WR is before or after Room 1000:
If it is before or at Room 1000, you may start at any checkpoint before the current standing WR if you hold it. If you do not hold the current standing WR, you must start at a position at least 100 doors behind the current WR.
If it is after Room 1000, refer to “Endless Mode Checkpoint Rules.”

  11. The account used for the run must be linked in the description of at least one article of video evidence. Account age does not matter.
This is necessary for me to attribute the run to the correct person in-game.

  12. Runs that were recorded, not uploaded, before the most recent time the WR for the furthest room reached was reset are not eligible.

  13. If you are unable to record a video, you may ask an admin to supervise your run for proof that it occurred. Admins cannot act as witness/supervisor to their own WR runs and must still get a friend to record it for them.
Obviously this rule is slightly different in the event that a group of people instead of a single individual are going for the world record of a certain section.

  14. The usage of the Radiant Deep Light or admin-exclusive Quicksilver Flashlight are not allowed.

  15. Super Epic Mode runs (April Fools 2024) are not eligible for WR.

“Reset Saving” Rules

With competition for the WR recently having spiked to unnecessarily competitive levels, such as WR runs having goalposts exceeding A/D-3000 and the possibility of reaching A/D-4000 being within reach, I have decided to respect the fact that not everyone has as much time out of their day to play video games as everyone else. We all have lives, and this is a critical issue that must be addressed before competition involves to such a point where the effects of running a full-length WR attempt may be detrimental to users’ health.

In order to pursue this objective, as of May 26th, 2024 @ 12:00 AM GMT, players may use the “Reset Character” button within WR runs as a way to “save” their progress provided that certain specific conditions are met. These conditions follow here:

  1. The last 10 minutes of any video evidence submitted where the “Reset Character” button was used must not be sped up or significantly edited, similarly to how Rule 3 of the above section dictates that the last 1 hour or 500 doors of a run must not be significantly edited.
  2. You must either own the Checkpoint Upgrade game pass, or have an administrator to assist you. This is less of a rule and more of an unspoken requirement, since Endless Mode checkpoint requirements exist (this requirement being that you must make it twice as far to checkpoint to rooms >= 1000).
  3. There must be no active entities for at least 90 seconds before you press the Reset Character button.
  4. You must not open any doors for at least 90 seconds before you press the Reset Character button.
  5. The total length of your unedited video (e.g. at 1x speed) must be at least one hour. This rule can be alternatively stated as: “You may not utilize this rule as a loophole to restock on batteries or change what flashlight you are using at any given time.”
  6. You must use the same battery-powered flashlight (Deep Light, Eco Flashlight, etc) for the entire run. You may use other equipment (such as the Gummy Flashlight) however you please.

Endless Mode Checkpoint Rules

To determine the checkpoint that runners are allowed to use, follow this formula:

R = ((W - 1000) / 2) + 1000, rounded down

For the above formula, the value “W” should equal the current standing world record of your desired section at the time of your run starting. Compare the value “R” to the rules on the below numbered list, following the rule that appears closest to the top of the list. This will determine the latest room you may start your run on.

  1. If the value of “R” is less than or equal to 1100, you may start at Room 900 or any room before it.
  2. Otherwise, if the value of “R” is less than or equal to 1250, you may start at Room 1000 or any room before it.
  3. Otherwise, you may start at any room less than or equal to the value of “R.”

The usage of the Checkpoint Upgrade game pass is allowed, but users of this gamepass do so at their own risk. (We are not responsible for untimely deaths due to side effects of the modkit device.)

Closing Statement

These rules are subject to change at any given time without warning, it is crucial that you check this page frequently to stay updated if you’re going for the throne of the WR holder.

Good luck, wanderers.

Update October 13th, 2023:
Since the world record has become significantly contested, several rules have been changed to be relatively more lenient than before. Additional clarifications have also been made to prevent loopholing. These changes follow:

  • The maximum speed up that can be applied to proof videos is now 20x speed, rather than 16x.
  • It has been clarified that you do not have to record the video for proof if your device does not have enough space, or for some other reason. A friend can record for you via a Discord screen share or by spectating you.
  • Imposing a watermark taking up 20% or more of screen space is now explicitly prohibited.
  • The file sharing websites Google Drive, Dropbox, and MEGA are now acceptable sources for valid WR runs.
  • Muting audio of video proof is now explicitly prohibited, unless you are speeding up the video by at least 2x.
  • An admin can now act as witness to your run. Admins cannot act as witnesses to their own WR runs.
  • Using the development branch of the game (unstable build) is now explicitly disallowed as well, not just “admin interference.”

Update August 28th, 2023: These rules do not apply if your world record run did not make it to or past Room 250 of your section of choice, regardless of checkpoint usage.
