Me and a friend doot made a game based on the Rope Constraints where each player has a rocket launcher (as well as other tools inspired by Doomspire) and fights on bridges
Our friends enjoy the game but we’re having trouble getting a consistent playerbase, as the game is very dependant on other people playing at the same time.
What do you think about the game and do you have any methods of potentially increasing our playerbase?
maybe you should add a base and some teams. to make it more fun, maybe some flag capture stuff. Shouldn’t be too hard to implement. If you need help with some of the scripting lmk, I’ll do it for free.
Have you considered monetizing your game? Sharing updates and teasers about your game can really pique people’s interest. Like @DrDarkBlock mentioned, you could add unique game modes. The destructible bridges are just the core of the project but game modes can wrap that and contribute to a more exciting experience in my opinion. I would also be glad to contribute some code to the project if need be.
Start a discord server, youtube, tiktok… Literally anything to get your game name mentioned just once publicly. I’m sure you’ll find the right audience. Just takes patience and dedication.
Just played the game. Couple notes I took. These are all my personal opinion btw, so just take what I say with a grain of salt. UI isn’t very appealing. Nothing really excites me personally about the game. Just feels like free models and a round duration with destructible parts, the game needs more not sure what the “more” is but just more.
Side note: Try clamping the K/D, else you’ll get stuff like -0.3454 and stuff.
We are aware of the mismatched/bad UI, we were planning on improving it but to get the game in a working state as quick as possible a lot of it was copy pasted from other games I have made.
Gameplay wise, how can I distinguish it from a free model game? The tools are free models, yes, but that isnt supposed to be the main focus of it.
I notice that you can’t equip tools by clicking their icon in the hotbar. This makes it impossible to equip tools on mobile (assuming you’re planning on supporting it) and is a bit confusing for PC players as well.
On option is that you could keep the brickbattle theme but rescript the weapons yourself to add some character to the game. Give some of the tools some new animations and functionality and I think it’ll start to feel less stale.
Another idea is to customize how players move. For example, what if you added some parkour mechanics like sprinting or double jumping?
I was actually working on the game since this post and replacing the default toolbar with a custom one. I am aware of the issue, just published it in an unfinished state.
Custom animations is a good idea, as well as maybe changing the sound and models for the launcher/sword. I might also remove the trowel tool as it doesnt really serve any purpose in the game but I could maybe reintroduce it if I can blend it more into the game
Sprinting and double jumping is also a good idea, I’ll see what I can do
Since the creation of the post I have:
• Updated the UI to match
• Changed the sword animations and sounds
• Removed the trowel tool
• Added custom toolbar
• and more…
Thank you all for your suggestions, I am happy to say they have improved the game majorly
I have also made a TikTok ad viewed here: https://vm.tiktok.com/ZGeUfRpu2/
I hope it will gain some attention and push my game out
