Rotating a model doesn't rotate around the middle?

So sometimes I need to make a design and then make a ring of them. The problem comes when I try to duplicate and rotate what I already have. it seems like the rotate tool tries to align the model with the grid, because everything that I rotate gets offset a little. This is extremely annoying because it means I have to manually build each and every section from scratch. Below are some pictures to prove my point. The green models are the original starting pieces. The more complete circle with black parts was done one the 1/5 grid while the one with blue was on the 1 stud grid.

models rotate around their first part. If the first part isn’t the center one, ungroup the model and select the center piece first before selecting the other pieces and group them. It should now rotate around the center.

so I would have to put a center piece in for it to rotate properly? That’s kind of annoying, but I guess it’ll work.

What? Since when?

Pilot, have you tried CmdUtil? Its RotateGroup mode rotates around the middle of a group.

No, I haven’t tried it but it might be a good idea. Would I find it in the plugins section for studio?

I got it from here.

Thanks, but I am not sure how to set it up

go into Quenty’s plugins, he has an updated version called “qCmdUtl”

Does qCmdUtil support undo/redo?

Yes, I use it fairly often when I’m building.

Thanks! I was finally able to finish a model i’m working on.

EDIT: The only problem seems to be that it messes up the normal built in building tools that studio provides

I’m unsure of how you’re rotating these, or how your models are set up. When I try, I don’t seem to have any issues.

Can you add your repro case so I can see the specifics?

Now group all the parts except for the black one in the middle. Then duplicate that model and rotate using 1/5 stud. Separately, duplicate and rotate the black, middle piece the same amount. The black part and the model should NOT line up.
