I have this wall I made and I need it to be added into the building but sadly the rotation bug offsets it and make it impossible to realign, I hope this is fixed soon or a way to fix this easily will come out… I’ve tried many ways to fix this issue but none have prevailed to solve this problem other than adding each part one by one.
What is the “rotation bug”? Can you provide the step to reproduce this?
Basically, you take a model, in this case a wall with windows and when you rotate the wall it will no longer be aligned with the global axis. Let me make a video real quick.
Videos help, but we need a file. Upload a rbxl file to your post that includes the necessary models and list the steps required to take parts aligned to the world axis and then rotate them so they have offset.
Alright I will upload the file and you can use the video as a way to find out how the glitch is caused, which is the best way to send the file?
You can just upload it directly in your post. There’s a button to attach files in the post editor:
This is not a bug. The reason the part doesn’t fit on the grid in the repro file is because the depth of the model is off-grid. The main part has a depth of 2.25, one side’s Hi has a depth of 0.25, and the other side’s Hi has a depth of 0.21. This makes for a total depth of 2.71 which will not align to a 0.25 grid. The reason it’s not working in the video is likely because the building was built on a grid offset from world space.
You’ll need to resolve this by using the Transform tool in the Model tab of Studio:
With it, you can set the pivot point of the dragger by clicking the plane icon in the top left:
Does this work with models?
Yep, the Hi brick I was dragging in the video was a model.
Is it possible to re-align something that has been offset by this issue?
Yep. Using the plane icon in the top left, select the part you wish to align your part/model to and then you’ll be able to drag the mis-aligned item into alignment.
It doesn’t seem to work for me.
I can’t help you without knowing what you’re trying. Can you upload another video or file?
Yes hold on.
You need to drag the door after you set the grid. Setting the grid doesn’t automatically re-align everything – it just changes the grid models/parts are dragged on. Sorry, I guess that was hard to see in the video I uploaded earlier.
Oh thank you so much, I finally got it to work. I’ve been struggling with this for months and I had to halt my progress hoping it would be “fixed” I am glad somebody finally gave an explanation on why this keeps happening. I thank you very much for your time.
There’s an article on the wiki about the tool if you want to know more!
