Running Animation Feedback

Hey, could anyone give me some feedback on this running animation? I’ve been told it has a weird bob, and I was wondering if any experienced animators knew what I could do to fix it.

As for the animation, I think it looks great.

The arms go backwards too fast compared to the arms moving forward, but that could be my eyes or it could just be the video.

Also, I love how the character moves a bit to the left and right.

It’s off to a good start! You’ve got the basic movements down, but it looks a little stiff. When you run, every part of your body moves a little, so I’d recommend making the head jiggle a little, making the body “expand and contract” a bit, etc. Slight little movements make a big difference, so I’d say play around with it!

(I will also add on that leaning can really add definition to a running animation)

I believe you should put that in the #help-and-feedback:cool-creations category, for this category is more for the 2d art, or gfxs

I’ll focus more on the arms on my next running animation, thank you. You just made me realize what I was doing wrong with my easing styles. I usually end up just being lazy and making everything quad in.

@PapaDoomsday

By expand and contract, do you mean physically moving the parts, or rotating? I’ve been moving the lower torso for breathing animations and height changes, but I haven’t done more of that. I’ll work on the head movement, thanks for pointing that out :+1:

Oh, I was going to post there but it said animations go here, you sure about that?

Very interesting, considering animating isn’t considered an art design type catagory

I was going off this

This is a support category for help on everything related to graphics, UI design, animation, rigging, 3D modeling (meshes), sounds and composing on the Roblox platform or through external modeling tools, from extremely basic to even the most technical of issues.

If it’s a problem though, I’ll move to that channel for future posts, I just wanted to make sure I was in the right place

I meant moving, moreso referencing height change! Also, the legs and limbs outstretching away from the torso slightly or moving in during movement is something that’s nice sometimes too. It’s honestly a preference type of deal regarding how your run looks, and I would say as long as it looks how you want, there’s no wrong or right way to do it (even if it’s exaggerated or silly movements!). Animation for me is usually a lot of tiny little tweaks and tests once the main part is out of the way, and trying to get the subtle movements to get across the emotion you want is key to reaching an animation that works for you!
