Salvaging my time attack-style platforming game

Hey all, I came here today to see if I could get some advice for a problem I’m having.

These are some screenshots of a game I’ve been working on codenamed Project Forward.

It is a game separated into dozens of sections I call “levels”. Here is a video of one such level from a while back so you can get an idea of the gameplay loop. Read the video description if you want additional context.

My problem is that after releasing my recent 17-level demo, response from even my core fans was tepid. After pushing for more concrete feedback, here is what I got.

it was pretty fun, but the double jump feels a bit buggy and made me a bit annoyed

i would say its like really simple and the stuff getting used again
bassically same thing next level but kinda diffrent
bassically you do obby a bit, get button, run back and go through door and get checkpoint
next level repeats
not gonna lie it would be sick if all levels were different

To be honest there’s some glitches that force me to restart the game all over again that’s one reason. Second it just feels like blocks have been jammed together without really having the feeling of an actual badgraphix game

What do you make of all this? It seems like the primary issue here is a matter of level design, and since this is one of those games that’s pretty much built on its level design, the chances of this project releasing as anything more than a fart in the wind seem dire.

Because of this I’m thinking of shelving the project entirely, but I know there’s a lot of experienced devs on here so I figured I’d ask on here first to see if you had any feedback or contingency plans. What should I do?

I can see what they mean by the levels not being different, all i can see in the video is just

  • Jumping through the hoops, getting time and doing the next level
That’s really all there is, you might be able to add more effects to the game, like a vignette when you go through the hoop or something you could also try

  • Levels that involve stunts

  • Wall running

  • A level where you have to kill a boss or do something different than just collecting clocks and stars for time

  • A level up system, a shop

  • Improving Lighting

  • Power ups for the players on some levels that last like 10 seconds

  • A contrasted story
