My files don’t save past the initial save. It says it saved, and It’ll update the save time, but when I re-open the file nothing has been saved over. And I had this problem over 9 months ago: Documentation - Roblox Creator Hub
I haven’t been around recently, has there been some update/bug fix I must do myself that I’m unaware of?
I never got any use out of autosave. The handful of times I checked to see if it could save my work, and nothing showed up. I press the save button always, but no files are overwritten.
Update: this method is not even working anymore. I change the save file name and it saves as the first file that I saved when I opened the studio. So basically, the only way I can save a game now is to publish it.
Would be nice to have an admin comment on this issue, this is some bs bug.
As you can see, ever since the first savefile(SupermarketGame1), each save file was the same size and did not vary from the first save. On the last two saves I spammed 11k bricks, and still the same file size and stuff as the first save file. This is a huge nuisance.
Alright, let’s see if we can’t get to the bottom of this! First off, what OS are you using? Which save button are you hitting? Does this happen with an empty place? Have you tried uninstalling/reinstalling Studio?
Are you thinking of the auto save, or save as?
Because the auto save, saves to appdata, not to your file.
Not always. You can change the auto-save path in Settings. For me it’s Documents/ROBLOX/Autosaves and I’m pretty sure that was the default.

Windows 7
I’m using File>Save As
I opened a new file and saved as a few times and it worked, but yesterday was not the first time save as created a file of a version that I saved hours ago. I haven’t uninstalled yet. Do I do that from Control Panel>Programs or some other custom way?
Save as, only saves the file, the auto save, is saving to it’s own file, were you have it, default is appdate, but you can change that from the settings page in studio i think.
Normally if you auto save, it will be “autosave” or “autosave0”
and if you have auto save on and roblox studio crashes, and re opens, you get “autosave1” if you don’t open the auto save.
Not sure who you are replying to, but my issue isn’t with autosave, it’s with saving period. Autosave may work, idk, I haven’t even tried using it in the past few months, I’m fairly good with saving my place scripts in notepad++ just in case.

Control Panel->Programs will uninstall Roblox.
To make sure it is a fresh install, remove Roblox via the Control Panel, then go to the start menu and type in RegEdit. Click the one item that appears (should be a blue icon). Click Yes when Windows prompts you. Open up HKEY_CURRENT_USER, then open up Software. Right-click->Delete anything with Roblox in its name; be careful to not delete anything else. You can now close RegEdit and install Roblox from the website normally. If this doesn’t fix the issue, let me know!
[strike]It works great now, thank you very much![/strike]
Scratch that, it wont save over. It did when I tested it at first though, so that’s something. Somewhere along the line it remembers a certain save state and saves the file as that each time you click the save button, since the date modified value changes. Same for when you do save as to force it to create a new file. So nothing was fixed, quite possibly I’m back where I started with no change.
edit: nvm, it stops saving once I hit play. This may not be a bug, but it used to save normally even in play mode. It will not save if I pause, but if I stop, it goes back to the last version where it saved, and you can edit stuff and save properly again as long as you don’t hit play.
That’s the problem, save as doesn’t work. It saves the same file from before I hit play over and over again.
I want to save while in play mode because I build something and then run scripts. I want to save that building and scripts.
And to clarify, by play I mean the green play button in the studio toolbar. It takes a place where scripts don’t run and parts don’t use physics and makes it do all that.
I still have no idea why stuff refuses to save, or why roblox would ever have a save button create/overwrite a save file as an older version of the game from before you hit the play/run button. I got a new PC and the studio looks like Windows office now, but the problem remains.
How is one supposed to run scripts and make them do stuff if run/play disables saving?
