I finally finished the first map for the game. It felt like homework making it but I’m pretty satisfied with what I created, and I think a lot of people will like it.
Before I actually reveal the map, I mentioned in the previous devlog that I was making a cool hammer as the nightmare special weapon, and I finished it! It looks pretty cool in my opinion.
Note: the following image that shows the hammer also shows just a small bit of the new map. Not much, but a tad little.
It comes with a nice little pound effect. I probably could’ve made it better, by adding puff particles or something, but I’m keeping it basic since it’s a starter weapon.
Now for the map. I decided to be a little creative with the theme of the map, so it’s not a map theme I’ve seen at all on Roblox.
Click here to see the map.
The map is called Cellspace. Pretty neat name, huh?
The theme of the map is space, but it also has the theme of a cell, like a human cell, with a nucleus and all that jazz. I put in stuff you’d see in a cell, like a cell membrane (In the map, it’s a border with a line animation coming out of it), cytoplasm (the blue water stuff), and other things like lysosomes and mitochondria.
I won’t lie, the map wasn’t that fun to make. Building is not my strong suit and it bores me. Scripting is where it’s at.
I wanted to sketch out the layout of the map on paper, and that’s what I did. Originally, everything was gonna be more spread out, and there was gonna be a few more structures in the map, but it felt pretty slow to get from point a to point b, so I pushed everything together, and it was much better. I think this map will be fun for both normal mode and target mode.
I also converted everything used for rounds into packages. Hooray! If you want to test out the game so far, you can do so here. The teleporter in the starting place takes you to the new map. I’d love feedback on both the new map and the gameplay itself!
Now that I made the first map, I’ll probably make some of the hub UI showing the player’s stats. I probably won’t build anything in the hub, just the UI. I’ll then see what I should do from there. I’m also open to any suggestions for the game’s name by the way, because I’m not sure what it should be. I’m also getting more and more demotivated every day, mostly because I have another project idea in mind and I kinda want to make the other idea instead, but I’ll try my best to stay on this game.
