For the chat, it doesn’t look at humanoid display name, it looks at Player Displayname, which can only be changed by the CoreGui
Damn 5 months and Roblox still hasn’t told us anything.

Looking through FFlags using CloneTroopers mod manager application I’d assume Roblox is going to default enable DisplayNames In chat.
Not something I’m exactly mad about just kind of curious what they’ve done so far regarding impersonation.

So what happens when two players have the same display name in a game? I have a give player tool script, and the servers are quite large (70 players); what happens when two people both named Bob?

try using the players username, rather than their display name.

It’d give it to the first player named “Bob”.
There’s two people named bob though? Plus I don’t think the give player tool would run on display names, rather player names.
