Yes, and I’m wondering how admin scripts will handle dealing with Display Names.
So are you going to be saying that to the thousands of kids on this platform who don’t know better, just because they want robux? Roblox needs to take into account these issues, not say “oh it’s the player’s fault if they fall for it”. That solves nothing.
With impersonation problems that might be in hand(depending how the display name is being shown), there could be a setting to disable people from using others exact username. Only problem given for me is if the user “sheldon” disables this setting, I wouldn’t be able to use it as a display name.
Wooooo… This looks NOICE! But I have some questions:
-
Will the leaderboard show their username or “DisplayName”?
-
What will player.Name return?
-
Will there be a feature for developers to enable/disable “DisplayNames” in their games?
-
Would this feature filter “DisplayNames” like “ROBLOX”, “builderman” etc?
-
Are “DisplayNames” of the owner of the game allowed like @Duckzye said?
I agree it wouldn’t be the kids fault it would be the parents fault for not teaching their child better. Also roblox already most likely has solution for impersonation as this problem seems too obvious rhat they wouldn’t.
Player.Name returns their actual username.
Player.DisplayName returns their display name.
Also even if someone were to have a displayname of the owner of the game they would lack the owner icon on the leaderboard.
Are the people at Roblox this dumb? This is a terrible update. Do they have any idea how easy it is for scammers to impersonate developers and youtubes and trick them into falling for scams? They want to fight against scammers, and yet they are giving them a huge 1-up. Nice job Roblox.
How would systems where a user has to enter another person’s name work?
You can’t identify someone based off of a non-unique name.
They aren’t dumb they probably have a solution for impersonation just like Twitter.
That’s why you would use the player’s username.
What are you talking about? Parents are going to have no idea what this is.
How would this affect stuff such as Dummies (Like attack dummies) or games where developers would wish for the DisplayName to be completely disabled?
If the display names are shown to users then how would a user know to type in the name not the display name.
I know what username’s are.
But they should teach their kid not to fall for scams in general.
They will be unaffected since they would use player.Name, so it might be slightly annoying to find the username instead of the display name.
Find them on the menu playerlist match the avatar and boom.
And would the actual Player Instance be renamed? If so then that could be quite annoying for things such as game:GetService"Players":FindFirstChild
Yeah, and also you used to be able to change your UserId back in ~2007?
I believe Roblox has already implemented a way to see the username, and if they haven’t, they should in the next few months. You could easily just tell the user to type in the username instead of the display name.
No it wouldn’t. Player.Name is their username.
Player.DisplayName is their displayname.
