When might the release date be? Or have they not publicly displayed that yet?

I think that this new feature will be great for those who have usernames with multiple numbers or unique characters to try and get a specific name. Instead of having to change o’s out with 0’s and lower case L’s with capital i’s you can now simply spell out the name. I am curious as to what you are doing to combat impersonation. I am also intrigued as to if certain display names after a certain amount of uses can no longer be used. Will there be a cap on how many people can use a specific name kinda like disord. I’m excited for the roll-out of this, I love all of these new features being released, Great work!
I mean it can work it’s just how would one apply for that? What would be required to get it in the first place? It would probably be better if you can just press ESC, click on someone with their display name, and it pops up a summery of their profile in that menu with their username so people can see if someone is impersonating someone else that way. Would probably save the mods time as they won’t get so many people applying for a verified badge next to their username on the player lists.

can’t say i enjoy the added complexity of having two naming systems but i guess i’ll have to deal with that. other than that, it’s nice to have a less costly way to change your name.
Oh so you mean like Steam almost? I don’t think ROBLOX would do such thing, but I’m not a Staff whatsoever.
Personally I think display names should remain unique, or have some kind of protection from impersonation.
Everyone is worried about impersonation, and I don’t blame them. This could lead to some insane incidents on the ROBLOX platform.
Maybe have the Display Name be bigger above the player’s head, but with the username in smaller letters below it.

I like this update, but I share the concerns of my fellow ROBLOX users, lots of people will try to ruin the reputation of well-known developers and content creators(such as MiniToon, Flamingo, etc.) I hope ROBLOX takes measures to not let this happen though.

I mean, I have an alt which name is perfect for this, but I’m worried people will try to get other terminated by impersonation.
I think users shouldn’t be able to change their display names to usernames that are in the Roblox Star Program. (and or Roblox Devs)

How is this gonna even work??
People are just going to impersonate popular users, such as YouTubers, and developers! Now, scam bots will be as smart as ever, as all they have to do is change their “display name” to ROBLOX, or someone that the community would trust to get people to go to their scam website.
In my honest opinion, this update is not good. People are just gonna impersonate each other, and what happens if (for example) there are 2 people in the server named “Coco”? How do we distinguish from the two people named the same display name??
I could understand if the display name was just like a “second name” that shows up on the profile page… but when it’s gonna be used in the chat, it isn’t gonna work.
Let’s forget about impersonation of famous people… What happens if I have a creative/original username, and someone comes along and takes it to use it for their display name??
The system is fine as it is. We don’t need random changes that will just bring problems along.
There’s so many problems and issues with it. Moderation is just gonna be worse because of this.
I see where you’re coming from, as a lot of usernames in ROBLOX are already taken, and there’s really no way to fix that… but this isn’t gonna solve that issue. It’ll just bring more issues!

That’s already a feature.
Any popular developers/youtubers/roblox staff attempting to change your display name to them will automatically moderate your display name preventing you from changing your display name to one of those names.

Well, then it kinda ruins the whole point of these “display names”, since then we’re starting back at square one with having all of the usernames taken up.

Well I mean, it would be free name changing, so you’d still have some of it’s purpose remaining, but I do see where your coming from with that.

I believe so, as they say in the Dev Forum post.
But for my game, I’m definitely turning it off.
Another con about this update would be no one would change their username anymore, because changing the display name is free. This would result in ROBLOX profiting less, even though 1000 robux is only a few USD.

This is a horrible idea, people will now be able to impersonate people at a rapid pace. I am not sure why ROBLOX staff keep coming up with these horrible ideas. It will bite everything in the rear later on, especially when the backlash comes into full effect.

True, at this point, usernames would become a simple aesthetic to finding someone accurately.
If it’s added, I feel like it should become a secondary use of changing name, so maybe 500 less or more than a real username change, that way it’s profitable and less prone to impersonation.

Impersonators, my opinion:
I am not worried at all about the display name because people can just… Click your name so they would know you are not imposter.
Scam bots will probably be the same. Also if you fork the chat, you can easily turn display names off if you are worried about that, since there is a Display name part.
Keep up the good work Roblox , DevRelationsTeam , and anyone else who made this Roblox update possible!
