Say "Hello" to Display Names!

I agree but to counter that, what if theres a scammer as I said eariler you couldn’t block their displaynames. There could be a medium-size developer and someone impersonates them, and someone recongizes the name. What are the developers going to do if you understand what I am saying?

Another idea is that there could be a tag saying [DisplayName] Beside the persons username in chat

I think this could be cool. But people could use this to impersonate other users. I don’t really see the point in adding a twitter feature to roblox. Also a lot of old accounts with rare names my no longer feel as special with people just being able to change their display name to what they want. This could also help spread rumors about reputable players, that are really bad, and could ruin their reputation within the roblox community.

Yeah same, it’s a good idea but it’s concerning to me.

Not the best idea, it can cause loads of confusion and more scams…

This is a useless feature that will bring more problems and will let malicious people have more opportunities to be malicious. This will also have Roblox lose tons of money because now you don’t have to buy Robux to change your name. It’s not really necessary anyway, because the games that need “display names” already have them implemented. I’m definitely not against the tagging feature, but display names is a pretty bad idea in general. There’s not a good reason to add this and making it global so it can happen anywhere is annoying, because it would be nice to disable it. I don’t think this should be added, because there’s more problems that come with it, which isn’t worth it. It will just confuse people and remove simplicity from the platform.

I consider this as a pretty nice update, but keep in mind the stuff pretty much people already said, like copying other names and maybe hidden bad words in they.

But, now that this is gonna be availble, will the change username for 1k feature will be deprecated / deleted?

It seems like a neat idea, but like a lot of people are saying, it seems like a great tool for fraudsters.

Maybe adding some sort of verification/authenticity badge to popular accounts could prevent impersonation?

People could get mad at this saying reputable people apparently get special treatment but others don’t.

This feature has the potential to solve almost every concern.

When you block someone their user ID is blocked and not just their username/display name. (not positive though)

yes, and it still wouldn’t be convenient, because if you didn’t know that popular people have a verification badge, you wouldn’t know they are frauds.

Pretty sure Roblox has taken into account all the possibilities that can happen by releasing this update, and has thought about these very issues; I honestly think this is pretty cool, though I understand a lot of the concerns.

it probably will show under the ingame name. you dont gotta be so pessimistic

If they don’t care it’s not my problem.

Risk assessment is key to preventing worse case scenarios from happening in the first place. There is no need to have to wait for a sacrificial lamb to be slaughtered before the people at Roblox suddenly realize that maybe this isn’t such a good idea.

At the end of the day, mud sticks and all it takes is really one false accusation and an angry mob who are willing to believe in such lies to level someone’s career on this platform.

This is a great idea, but I think this can be abused by making new accounts to take away people’s display names.

Here’s an idea on how to prevent impersonation:

First, check if the display name is an actual username. Then, check the number of followers the username has. If it’s over 100k, then don’t allow the display name. This should prevent impersonation. No one who is popular would have less than 100k followers on Roblox.

100k is unreasonably high. I checked the profiles of a couple front page games, and only a select few have follower counts that high. A previous reply shows that Roblox does have plans to filter impersonation from happening. I think that the impersonation problem is quickly going to be one that dies out. I feel that the first thing many people are going to do when they recognize a name is to check username to double check.

I doubt little kids would be smart enough to check that (I’m not trying to call them dumb lmao). I really hope they can filter the impersonation. That’s just one way I thought of doing it. I guess a lot of people don’t care about following someone, since there is no point anyway lol.

The issue I have with this update is you guys don’t state anything about Impersonation, No where In post does it say/label anything about Impersonation So I hope you don’t use bots to moderate the display names and just get Real People so that theirs no issue cause I think we can all agree that the moderation is just broken for all sorts of things so If their is moderation please do. overall I think this update will be good for everyone because 1000 robux just to change a name is more than you think, It might not be anything to big developers, youtubers, etc but I think it would help a lot of people who don’t have that money.

Only the true roblox chads would know what I mean by their moderation.
