I was scrolling down through roblox type of news account and found this tweet
I am pretty sure that the username is going to be with the display name when you click on somebody’s display name in the playerlist
I like this project! Continue Roblox
@Smileeiles Not just that, I mean display the username as well as the display name without clicking on the user. So we could just look onto the leaderboard and know who’s who. This might be a bad idea because it’ll increase the occupied space that the leaderboard will take, but after a rethink, we can just press Tab to dismiss it, so it won’t be that much of a big con.
What should happen is the username should pop up first, then the display name clones.
Why don’t have display names my location is Germany
That was on the 18th. You cant do it anymore for now even if your location is in Germany
Oh ok then thank you for telling me
this completely broke our system we have for reporting exploiters in Jailbreak.
I’m not sure if the current implementation is broken/not fully completed, but at the current moment:
- it doesn’t show their display name on the website
- it doesn’t show their display name on the leaderboard (only real username)
- clicking their name on the leaderboard doesn’t show their display name (only real username)
- the name above the player is their display name, with no indication of their real username
- users who changed their display name can’t even change their display name anymore or can’t turn it off
now we cannot have user-sent reports for any exploiters in Jailbreak. we’ve been banning thousands of users based on manual review of reports that are sent in by players, and now we cannot do this anymore.
I think I would love for this feature to roll out, but I have a great many questions about where it is displayed?
-
Does the username OR the display name come up when a friend request is sent? Does the username OR display name appear under UGC creations or other catalog items? Will the website chat show display names OR real usernames?
-
How will the @ system via chat work? Do we have to click on a private message for the actual username to display or is there some way to identify the name in-game other than checking avatars? Is there any other use for the @ system? As in to notify a user in comments or in-game chat?
-
How will this be filtered for in-game moderators or admins? Many games tend to have morph avatars, and if all are using display names and morph avatars, how do the moderators or admins identify one and another?
-
Is it possible for a game to only display the player’s real username?
-
Will changing your real username have any effect on the display name?
I would appreciate it a lot if you answer these.
Overall a pretty cool update! I can now name myself “NumberSpam”. But still impersonation is a concerning problem, please make sure to create a good distinguish system in order to compensate for this.
Sounds like a really cool feature I would love to see, but impersonation is a big downside to this.
In my opinion usernames should stay as they currently are, and display names should be italic. Ex: “Username”, “DisplayName”. That would show a clear difference between if the name shown is a username or their display name.
Okay, maybe this would make sense for DisplayName. For Playerlist, you can see your DisplayName above and your real username below. So, you can find out that scammer is not the real Roblox staff, popular Roblox developer, or popular Roblox YouTuber.
Don’t mind me making this in studio to give a example.
im sorry but i cant take you seriously with those emojis
-
I presume it would use the Display name but I’m not sure.
-
No Idea No but there should be, similar to discord. I might replicate it for my game though. #CustomChatSystemsLol
-
Thats something for the developer to figure out.
-
If your using a custom playerlist, chat and nametags yes without it I have no idea
-
no
Blacklisting popular names as well as possibly removing DisplayNames if they are the place’s creator.
Also, PR team making it extremely clear that the name you see may be faked. Other games are capable of doing such things, so I don’t see why everyone believes that Roblox players will be unable to comprehend this.
Me, I prefer that this is the default playerlist when display name is out
and it can add a new game setting (use display names) and it will be enabled by default, place owner can disable this and it will only display the username in the player list and it will use username too in the chat
When it’s enabled, we can see both display name and username in the player list and in the chat, it will use display name
Just gonna input my thoughts on this, I honestly think this is a pretty cool feature. Real shame though, that most of the people who aren’t kids on this platform will look to abuse features like this when given the chance. I set my display name when it was in Germany before they disabled it all, and I’ve still got my Display Name. Like, It still shows up in games and everything - and I’ve confirmed with my friends that they can actually see it too. I doubt roblox is going to do anything crazy about all the people with display names set, since so many people have already set one. The only thing they probably could do is try to strip the feature from the website or just do a rollback.
The best way to improve this is to limit it to accounts over 13+. This way, younger accounts already made wont be able to experience it and abuse it while accounts over 13+ can enjoy it and hopefully not abuse it. However, this would lead to a wave of accounts with faked ages. Not like that already happens.
this is actually a pretty good idea
