Say "Hello" to Display Names!

are you able to have custom fonts on your username? because i feel like those aesthetic users will copy a random font then paste it on their display name to give it a more aesthetic feeling

Nope, only what you can use now.

i think roblox is trying to make us forget this thing.

I changed mine thinking I could revert it but once testing was over, everything got removed. So now im stuck with a display name I hate :sob::sob:

Have a special icon for verified youtuber over 10k subs!

That wouldn’t work since account verification for channels doesn’t work the same as discord. Where you need to verify your login within discord to add it on Roblox you can easily take anyone’s youtube channel and claim it as yours.

That is probably why they removed it, but in less then an hour is pretty quick though

I suggest that they make implementations along side it so it doesn’t get abused, like if someone is exploiting in a game, you can’t clearly ban/kick them.
Unless ObliviousHD makes it so display names can also be targeted, it’s kinda unstable.

They did not take only one hour to change it. I was able to change it after some hours after they “disabled” it.

Just give people a verified tick if their username matches their display name.

When will it be rolled out to the whole world?

One thing that concerns me is the ability to use scripts.

Will display names affect how e.g Admin/Game Management scripts work.
I tend to script a lot of things which have involved refering to certain players, e.g Giving a certain player a tool in their backpack if they are in the game.

Will it work based on their display name, and multiple people with the same name in one game, causing multiple people to get targeted instead of the single one that was originally intended.

You will have to change these scripts to use the players ID. If you are just using their name, it will use their Display name not their username. At least that is what I have gotten from this. So yes if you reference players by their name or save info with their name rather than their ID, I would get to changing that.

Also if you haven’t noticed, Since the announcement of this Display Names has technically been out. They are functional in some form. Certain games register my Display Name with ease. If you don’t have anything going to Humanoid.DisplayName (I think it is) or Player.DisplayName then you will be fine.

If display names don’t change the actual name of the player, for example in game.Players.PlayerName
then it will work fine.

Could we have the ability to disable displaynames within our games and through site settings? I have friends who change their username enough. Displaynames will ruin my life as a developer and friend trying to figure out who is who.

I’d like to see displaynames be similar to how twitch does it; it’s the same as your username but you can modify the likeness of it (i.e. caps). In the case of roblox, I think a little usage of copy/paste fonts and emojis should be allowed but nothing more.

Young players will use their real names, and we’ll see an uproar of unsavory yet moderatable instances of users. Moderation is a pain in its own regard, so adding something more moderator-intensive is going to hurt.

You can disable display names in chat. (maybe i am not sure, sometimes roblox doesn’t give us permissions to change stuff)

How would i put it in my game or scirpt it?

Hello.
this topic seems great to me.
But it has its problems.
