SCP Universe - Licensing Information & Attributions

SCP Universe
Licensing Information

Last Updated: January 20th, 2018

Note: For licensing and legal purposes, there are off-site links present in this thread. I have cleared it with Developer Relations and they are fine for usage. Links are strictly for licensing and references to such documents - there are no other such links (i.e. Discord). Specific websites include the SCP Wiki as required by licensing and the CreativeCommons website.

Foreword

This thread will contain all licensing information and attributions for the Roblox group “SCP Universe”, owned and ran by myself. The following licensing information is also applicable to any groups associated with the aforementioned group, thus encompassing all works within the same licensing grounds as the primary group.

SCP Wiki Staff are free to contact me over Wikidot to save the trouble of using other programs to reach me. Any other contact may be done via Roblox or another suitable program.

I am not a lawyer nor a legal professional. I will obviously make mistakes regarding this information.

Licensing Information

The group “SCP Universe” on Roblox, owned by colbert2677 (proxy account @ SCPVerse), as well as all associated groups and contents in relation to the aforementioned group, are built around the concepts and writings of the SCP Wiki as a whole, with deviations (or remixes). All content produced by this group falls under the license CC BY-SA 3.0 (CreativeCommons Attribution-ShareAlike 3.0 Unported), the same license in use by the SCP Wiki.

With the associated license in mind, you may do the following:

  • Share: You are permitted to share, repost, redistribute or reference content produced by this group or the SCP Wiki within your own works (groups, stories, …) as you desire.
  • Remix: You are permitted to remix, transform or build upon material we or the SCP Wiki supply for your own purposes, even for commercial purposes.

However, under the following terms:

  • Attribution: You must appropriately credit the source from which you gained your material, as well as include a link or reference to the active license (CC BY-SA 3.0). If changes were made, they must be indicated (only applies for derivates in 3.0). You cannot suggest or directly state that the licensor endorses you or your derivative works.
  • ShareAlike: Your derivative works must be released under the same license as the source material. In this instance, any works derived from the SCP Wiki or any of the SCP Universe’s groups must also be licensed out under CC BY-SA 3.0.

Furthermore, as more of an internal notice for the SCP Universe community rather than the public: the following, as defined by the SCP Wiki, is strictly barred (includes a separate tab in the Licensing Guide):

  • The images from the SCP Wiki articles SCP-111, SCP-173 and SCP-1926 may not be used for commercial purposes. The texts (stories based around the images) are fair game, however the images are not.
    • As an explicit note for SCP-173, the author of the image, Izumi Kato, has not released the image nor its likeness under CreativeCommons.
  • The entirety of SCP-1926, including its image and texts, may not be used for commercial purposes. If SCP-1926 is to appear in any associated works, an original work must be created, which will be licensed out under CC BY-SA 3.0 as per it’s association with the SCP Universe and its license.

SCP Wiki Licensing Guide: Licensing Guide - SCP Foundation

An important note regarding group games:

The Intellectual Property (“IP”) rights of all group games belong to their developer, colbert2677 of Roblox. This does not include SCP-related content. Group games will not be freely available for anyone to take, nor are they requested to be in the public domain by the SCP Wiki licensors. Please do not attempt to say otherwise if you are not Wiki Staff. Aside from being prohibited to open a copy of our games in Roblox Studio, you are free to do as you wish with them (i.e. share, reference).

Attributions: SCP Foundation

The SCP Foundation is based off of the concepts and works within the SCP Wiki, the Wiki in general and original concepts created by the SCP Universe community. It operates under the same license as the Wiki and the SCP Universe, CC BY-SA 3.0. A link to the license is available in Section 2.

The groups listed on the Allies tab (“departments”) are derivative works based on the SCP Wiki article List of Foundation Internal Departments. The author to this work is unknown at the moment.

Attributions: Chaos Insurgency

The Chaos Insurgency is primarily based off of the concept of a “Group of Interest”, a tale hub associated with the SCP Wiki. The group borrows the name and concept. “The Chaos Insurgency” was authored by TwistedGears, Chubert and MissMercurial (“Team Muppets”) of the SCP Wiki for the Groups of Interest Contest, a collaborative writing competition hosted on the SCP Wiki in 2014. The group operates under the same license as the SCP Wiki and the SCP Universe, CC BY-SA 3.0.

The groups listed on the Allies tab (“departments”) are original works created by colbert2677 of Roblox. This does not include the concept suggesting the presence of a military or research branch - both of these items are, in concept, derivative works that stem from the Chaos Insurgency hub of the Groups of Interest Contest.

Licensing Addendum: Global Occult Coalition

Due to differing ownership, the Global Occult Coalition will be held accountable for its own Intellectual Property and copyright regulation. The owner of the SCP Universe shall not be responsible for the lack of legal coverage on the Global Occult Coalition’s end.
