RESEARCHER’s GUIDELINES

On-Site Procedures

[ON-SITE PROCEDURE]

The On-Site Procedure, or OSP, is the law of the land for all Scientific Department Personnel. It is to be followed and adhered to at all times regardless of circumstances. Failure to abide by these will lead to removal from the Scientific Department and revoking of your license.

  • Adhere to instructions and directives issued by superiors at all times. If you suspect your superiors are themselves violating regulations, collect evidence and report violations to the Research Board.
  • Do not enter areas your clearance does not permit. There will be consequences for wandering where you aren’t meant to be.
  • Treat combative escorts – Mobile Task Forces and Security Department – with respect and civility at all times and they will do the same to you. Allow them to voice concerns when necessary. If you encounter issues with combative personnel report them to the Department Director.
  • Any and all testing must be logged accordingly using the research log form which can be found in the Discord Server.
  • Professionality is mandated on-site at all times. As such, the following regulations are always in effect:
    • Make proper and coherent use of grammar and spelling to the best of your ability.
    • Do not make use of emojis such as “:D” or “XD” on site.

Do not flame or speak in an inflammatory manner on site. If someone provokes you handle it professionally and report it to the Department Director.

Ranks and Privileges

[RANKS AND PRIVILEGES]

The Scientific Department is a meritocracy meaning personnel are entitled to different privileges and procedures based on their rank. Ranking is, in turn, based on department experience. Experience is gauged based on the amount of testing one has performed in the Scientific Department. The following will present a comprehensive overview of the rights and privileges of each rank within the Scientific Department.

TRAINEE RESEARCHER
Trainees are considered probationary personnel and are subject to the following regulations and restrictions:

  • Trainees may not conduct solo testing. They must be accompanied by personnel ranking Researcher and up.
  • Trainees may not request Class-D personnel for testing without prior approval from personnel ranking Senior Researcher and up.
  • Interns may not request combative escorts without prior approval from personnel ranking Senior Researcher and up.

JUNIOR RESEARCHER
Junior Researchers are considered low ranking personnel and are subject to the following regulations and restrictions:

  • Junior Researchers may request no more than three Class-D personnel for testing purposes.
  • Junior Researchers may only request one combatant personnel for testing purposes.
  • Junior Researchers may not test on un-classified SCPs without supervision.

RESEARCHER
Researchers are considered medium-level personnel and are subject to the following regulations:

  • Researchers may conduct solo-testing on any Euclid-class SCPs.
  • Researchers must request at least one combative personnel when testing Euclid-class SCPs, but may request no more than three.
  • Researchers may conduct supervised (by Senior Researcher or above) testing on Keter-Class SCPs.

SENIOR RESEARCHER
Senior Researchers are considered experienced scientific personnel. They’re eligible to apply for Keter-class access.

  • Senior Researchers may conduct unsupervised testing on any SCPs of Euclid-Class and below.

CHIEF RESEARCHER
The Chief Researcher is the highest non-directorate rank in the Scientific Department and is entitled to test any and all SCPs in the facility at any time.

They are in charge of personnel management and serve on the Board of Research.Chief Researchers are experienced personnel among the Scientific command. They’re eligible to test on Keter-class SCPs. Chief Researchers additionally manage test logging and reviews.

Testing Procedure

[TESTING PROCEDURE]

Testing is the most important responsibility that the Scientific Department has within the Foundation. As such, there are several parameters and guidelines surrounding how Department personnel are to conduct testing on a routine basis. Testing is to occur in three stages:
  • Preparation, during which the Researcher will prepare his hypothesis and gather necessary supplies.
  • Execution, during with the Researcher will execute his hypothesis and observe the results.
  • Documentation, during which the researcher will document his findings in the test log and conclude the test.

This section will outline each of these stages in detail.

Preparation Stage

[PREPARATION STAGE]

In the Preparation Stage, the Researcher is expected to complete all pre-test setup. This includes the following:
  • Formulate a logical and well-reasoned hypothesis. Ask a question and set out to find an answer.
  • Ensure that there are enough combatant and Class-D personnel online to fulfill your test requirements.
    • The appropriate ratio of combat to Class-D personnel should be 1:3.
  • Request appropriate personnel via the radio using the format below to avoid ROBLOX’s hyperactive filters.
    • Requesting [X] CD in transfer [X].”
    • Indicate numbers marked as X using the tally mark key or | which can be accessed by holding shift and pressing the key directly above your right enter button. One mark or | will correspond to the number one, two or || to the number two, and so on.
    • If combatant personnel in the CDC do not respond to requests via radio you may try to gain their attention through the observation mirror.
  • Allow combatant personnel to brief the Class-D personnel before testing. This briefing should include the Class-D to be informed of their rights and consequences.
Execution Stage

[EXECUTION STAGE]

The Execution Stage is about conducting a proper and well-managed test within the assigned parameters. This includes the following:
  • Escort the test from the Class-D Containment Zone to the test location.
    • Alternatively you can request security personnel to bring test subjects to you and wait at the test location.
  • Have combatant personnel organize your test subjects against a wall.
  • Ensure that the test environment is not overly crowded. Remove non-essential personnel from the test-zone as necessary.
    • Class-D test subjects, combatant escorts, and Ethics Committee advisors are considered essential to testing. All other personnel may be asked to vacate the test area if it is overcrowded.
  • Provide Class-D personnel with detailed testing instructions.
    • Class-D personnel should be made aware of their chances of surviving the test beforehand, or informed it is unknown.
    • Be as detailed as possible when issuing test instructions. Verbally confirmed that your instructions have been understood before commencing testing.
  • Commence testing.
    • Issue clear instructions during testing and ensure that parameters are adhered to.
    • Don’t be afraid to improvise.
    • If Class-D personnel refuse to comply with directives you may request that they be terminated by your combatant escort.
      • Do not terminate Class-D personnel needlessly. Doing so may result in an Ethics inquiry.
  • Conclude testing once you have fulfilled your hypothesis.
    • Fully evacuate the containment chamber when testing concludes.
      • If there are dangerous instances left behind as a result of testing, have your combatant escort terminate them.
    • Have surviving Class-D personnel escorted back to the Class-D containment zone.
      • If your Class-D personnel have been exposed to mind-altering effects in the duration of testing, they are compromised. Order them terminated as discreetly as possible.
Documentation Phase

[DOCUMENTATION PHASE]

The Documentation Phase is rather self-explanatory. As stated in the On-Site Procedure, all Research personnel are expected to log all testing that takes place on the site. Failure to properly log tests will result in disciplinary action being taken. Adhere to the following checklist when documenting testing:
  • Ensure that the containment chamber has been properly vacated.
  • File a research log via the Scientific Department Discord.
    • The Format is very intuitive. You should encounter no issues filling it out.
    • Be as detailed as possible when filling out test logs. Record-keeping is one of the most important functions researchers fulfill.
  • Submit your test log appropriately.
  • Congratulations, you have completed a successful test.
Promotions and Merits

[PROMOTIONS AND MERITS]

PROMOTION GUIDELINES

Promotions in the Scientific Department are dispersed based on experience and merit, which is in turn based on time spent testing. This is gauged via testing logs. There are two phases to Scientific Department promotions: The Probationary Phase and the General Promotion Phase.

PROBATIONARY PHASE
The Probationary Phase is meant to gauge the general competency of personnel entering the Scientific Department.

  • In order to complete the Probationary Phase, trainees must perform their own test on an anomaly, with the supervision of personnel ranking Researcher and up. Supervised Tests may only be performed on Safe-class SCPs in the low-containment Zone. Trainees may select any SCP that fits this criteria to test on.
  • Interns may request to do a practice test to be supervised by personnel ranking Researcher and up. Practice testing may only be done on Safe-class SCPs in the low-containment zone. Trainees may select any SCP that fits this criteria to do their test on. For the duration of the practice test Trainees may ask any questions they like.
  • In order to pass the Probationary Phase, Trainees must complete their own test with minimal interference from senior personnel and demonstrate the following to the satisfaction of the supervising researcher:
    • Ability to form a well-reasoned and logical hypothesis.
    • Proper formatting when requesting Class-D personnel for testing.
    • Proper briefing procedure when briefing Class-D personnel for testing.
    • Proper following of test procedure as outlined in Section 3 of this document.
    • Proper test-logging when testing has concluded.

GENERAL ADVANCEMENT PHASE

The General Advancement Phase is an experience based system that works based on successfully logged tests. The more tests a Researcher logs successfully, the quicker they will rank up. The following are the individual requirements to achieve each rank within the Scientific Department:

  • Junior Researcher

    • Has completed supervised testing as a Trainee as verified by a superior.
    • Has obtained Level-1 clearance.
  • Researcher

    • Has completed and logged at least five successful tests, as verified by a superior.
    • Has obtained Level-2 clearance.
  • Senior Researcher

    • Has completed and logged at least ten successful tests as verified by a superior.
    • Has obtained Level-2 clearance.
    • Completed two or more successful tests on Euclid-class anomalies.
    • Approved for promotion by a Chief+.
  • Chief Researcher

    • Has completed and logged at least twenty-five successful tests, as verified by a superior.
    • Has testified to the Board of Science advocating for their promotion.
    • Has obtained a Level-3 clearance.
