There’s been many times where I’ve needed to look back on a conversation I had with somebody over PMs, and either dig through dozens of pages of PMs or never actually find it.
It would be very useful to have a search bar in the messages’ page to search for keywords or usernames.
Or even a way to “Star” certain PMs.
Archive
I really want this feature and I was actually going to suggest it myself soonish, you beat me to it. :durrr:
Also, I would like to be able to pick a specific page quickly, not just spam the arrow buttons to advance pages.
Archive[/quote]
Is that how you use your Archive? I leave every message that I still need to look at in my Inbox, and what I don’t need I’ll put in the Archive. (Archive is 1500+ pages for me atm, I can’t find anything in there if someone refers to an old message.)
Would you rather click a button on every PM you get to move it to the archive or click a button every now and then to mark important PMs and send them to archive? The former is just repetitive and yields no benefit – I choose the latter.
I use my archive for starred. But it forces me to have a clogged inbox.
So? If it’s unimportant then it doesn’t matter if it’s clogged because you’ll never be searching through it. It’s not even “clogged” – you don’t load in 1,000 messages at once if you don’t archive them all. Only 20 PMs are displayed per page, and they just about fit on the initial page without requiring you to scroll.
Okay, sure, but since it is named Archive and not “Important” or “Starred”, it means something is wrong with the way people are using them right now and there could be room for improvement. I just think there are not enough categories right now, or there should be features that help organize the existing categories, and this search feature could help with that.
If you want the inbox to be more intuitive then make a feature request for that – I’m not saying that it’s as good as it could be right now. What I am saying is that requesting an “important” tab for you to store your important PMs would just be a waste of time considering you can already do that with archived.
Then can I hire you to fix this for me so that I can use this “Archive” for something that it is not meant to be used for? (Otherwise it would have been named differently)
I’m just saying that it would be better for me if there was a search feature, because sometimes I have to look back at a message from a specific person that I didn’t think ahead to keep in my inbox, and it takes a long while to find. If I can just search for specific usernames, that would be great. I don’t know how many PMs you get every day but for me this takes up quite a bit of time, and I would appreciate any attempt to streamline the use of these pages.
I never said the search feature was a bad idea either – you can’t always tell if a PM could potentially be important or not, so a search feature would allow you to find important PMs in those cases. I was specifically addressing the first sentence in your previous post:
“but since it is named Archive and not “Important” or “Starred”, it means something is wrong with the way people are using them right now and there could be room for improvement.”

It doesn’t matter. If users are using one feature in a way that is another feature, rather than its actual intent, then something is wrong.

In your search bar it shows the page number, you can change the value to the page you want. But yeah I agree.
