Seeking Feedback: Early Access version of "Break the Prison"

Hi everyone!

I’ve just published the Early Access version of our new game: “Break the Prison”.

Currently, the game features 12 almost finished levels out of the planned 25. These levels showcase the quality and style we’re aiming for across the entire game.

About the Game:

Embark on a thrilling journey where you, an innocent prisoner, must solve clever puzzles and overcome challenging obstacles to reclaim your freedom. Do you have what it takes to break free?

Playable on PC, mobile, and console.

What we are looking for:

  • Feedback on the level design and puzzle difficulty.
  • Suggestions for improving player experience.
  • Thoughts on visuals, mechanics, and overall gameplay.

Let us know what you think, whether it’s about what works well or what could be better. Your insights will help shape the remaining levels and enhance the overall game quality.

Here’s the link to the game: Break the Prison [Early Access] - Roblox

Thank you in advance for your comments and support!

Was that inspired by a game A Way Out? It looks really nice :+1:

I was confused at first, there were no UIs to indicate where I should go. Anyway, it took me at least 1 minute to understand that I was supposed to enter the cell to be teleported.

The crouch function does not work correctly in first person and with dynamic heads.

The boxes used in the puzzles can lock the player (if they have a bad thinking just like me) or throw them out of the map (that’s what happened to me, both cases)

But overall, the game has good textures and graphics, despite some art is made using AI :+1:
Puzzles are quite hard to understand at first and the game is dark, it’s hard to see puzzle items and the electrical boxes

It was confusing to get started.

It took awhile to find the crowbar.

I noticed one of the wheels make a ticking sound so I finally figured out to walk away from it then run at the last moment to get through the steam. This is a complicated thing to figure out. Not sure how many people will just quit.

The room with the clock was beyond me. I could not figure it out and quit.

To start of as some other have said it is hard to find out where to go. Adding a UI to sow you where to go arrows or like arrows on the wall. Overall very nice game. Although some other bugs as others has mentioned also occurred on my side. But again over all very nice game!

Hey!

I’d fix some bugs, update the game’s lightning and some gui and it should do the trick!

  • Add a walking animation and remove jumping in the lobby

  • Also my character is a default character in the lobby for some reason

Hi samcampone, thanks for playing and feedback.

You can walk in the lobby - what do you mean?

I intentionally left the jumping in the lobby as this is a natural part of the game, but will take that into consideration.

Character is a default character in the lobby - that’s was for testing.

Sorry I lost you there when you got teleported - I should have been teleported with you to spectate for testing. How far did you manage to get?

Hey! Alright so, what i meant with walking animations is like a custom walking animation not actual walk sorry for not being clearer😅

I unfortunately didn’t get that far as it’s really hard and i’m not the best at puzzle games. :ok_hand:

  • One thing i forgot to say in my first reply is to basically add mouse head following it would make it much better and to also revamp the crouching system as it’s broken currently

A Way Out was one of the games where I was looking for inspiration building Break the Prison. I’ve tried to look everywhere for inspiration, from prison break games to puzzle-based experiences. Glad you think it looks nice!

Thank you for your feedback!

I’m working on making the main cell block more obvious so players know they need to enter a cell to start.

Noted on the crouch issue in first-person.

Ok, the boxes need more testing to prevent players from getting stuck or thrown out of the map.

After watching some gameplay, I agree that some puzzles need to be clearer. I’m adding more lighting in the vents and above the electrical box in B1 to help with visibility.

Appreciate the input! :+1:

Update: Fixes & Improvements in Break the Prison

Hey everyone! Thanks a lot for your feedback! I’ve been working through the issues and suggestions, and here’s what’s been improved so far:

:white_check_mark: Main Cell Block adjustments – the layout is now simplified so it’s clear to the player that they need to enter a cell.
:white_check_mark: Puzzle improvements – puzzles have been simplified to ensure smoother gameplay without unnecessary confusion.
:white_check_mark: Animation and mechanics fixes – to fix problems with animations, crouching, pushing boxes, and other mechanics, I now enforce the player’s appearance to a standard R15 character.

:movie_camera: Live Spectating System
I’ve built a system that allows me to spectate players, helping me observe gameplay flow for improvements.

I’m still fine-tuning everything, so if you spot anything else or have suggestions, feel free to share. Your feedback is invaluable in making Break the Prison the best it can be! :rocket:

You have to use too much brain power, these type of games don’t work well on roblox, just copy platinumfall’s game design for real success. Leave this type of games to steam not roblox. I like the game don’t get me wrong, but it’s gonna be niche forever unless you dumb it down by a lot and make it more kid friendly.

Thanks for the honest comment. You are right, the game requires focus. That is suppose to be the unique thing about this game, but I might have to simplify it.

Update: Further Fixes & Improvements

:white_check_mark: Character glitches - for testing for now just one character is available to all ensuring there are not crouching and other animation glitches.
:white_check_mark: Puzzle improvements – levels are further simplified. Still watching gameplays and working on smoothing everything out. I’ve introduced Funnels measuring players progress so I know what levels need to be simplified the most.

Funnels

Most concerning drop is the Cell where 40% of the players do not even get out of. Why do you think can be improved here? Constructive criticism welcome! Thanks for feedback!

The Cell

Update

:white_check_mark: Level Fixes & Improvements
I’ve made further improvements to the levels, and funnel conversion rates have improved. Still working on the other half of the game to ensure smoother progress:

:white_check_mark: Game Trailer
I’ve put together a high-energy action trailer for Break the Prison - let me know what you think!

Thanks!

Maybe some tips during the first level.

— In the cell: “There must be a way out of here”.
— After opening crawlspace: “Crouching might help.”
— Other side of crawlspace: “If only there was a light switch nearby”.
— If they try double doors after turning green lever: "Must be another passage”.

As they progress through the first level, reduce number of the helpful tips.
Then don’t give any more tips for the other levels.

Good trailer overall; just a few too many “running down a passageway” shots.

Remove a few and it will be great!

Thank you for the well thought out tips! The game has very little text, and I’m trying to keep it to an absolute minimum so it remains accessible to everyone, regardless of language. If escaping the cell still isn’t clear enough, I’d rather find a way to convey it visually instead of relying on words.

Yes, now that you mention it, I can’t unsee it—too much running! I’ll trim it down, thanks for the feedback!
