Seeking feedback for Night of Horror (An in development horror themed shooting game)

Hello, I know I’ve not posted much here but I thought I’d do a proper introduction. I’m MoonlightUK1234 and I’m the founder of Midnight Forest Productions. I’m here to show off a bit about one of my work in progress projects.

This project I’ve been working on is called Night of Horror (this is 1 of 2 projects that I’m working on in my free time. The other project I’m working on I’ll show when that is ready). Night of Horror aims to be inspired by Sega’s iconic The House of The Dead series. I know the game is still being worked on at the time of writing this but I do have a bit of story about the game if that helps gauge any interest.

The story:

The story will revolve around an outbreak of the undead in a fictional Scottish town. In this game the aim is to blast your way through hordes of the undead to race through town to reach a secret facility that is believed to be the source of the undead creatures that have overrun the town. Throughout the story, there will be 4 bosses which will be encountered along the way. On the final stage of the main story, a mini boss will be encountered.

Gameplay:

Despite the game being inspired by The House of The Dead series, the game will be played from a 3rd person perspective as opposed to a first person perspective. The game will have a story mode which will focus on the main story of trying to find the source of the creatures that have overrun the town. A 3 stage prologue story is also going to be part of the game which will be set in an estate overrun with the undead (this will be a reimagining of the original The House of The Dead game + its remake). The main story will have 5 stages all of which will be playable in a single playthrough. There won’t be any loading screens between stages.

What is planned:
A prologue story
Main story campaign
Nightmare mode (A mode where you have to try and complete either story using a limited amount of continues/credits. Running out of continues/credits will result in a game over)
An armoury/shop to purchase weapons
Creature and possibly a character gallery.

One thing I’ve been debating about is adding a mechanic where NPCs would appear at random intervals while being chased by creatures. The idea is that like in the 1st and 2nd The House of The Dead games, there are NPCs which are chased by creatures whom need saving. I am however thinking about maybe testing it to see if it fits in with the gameplay.

Below are some screenshots from the most recent build at the time of writing this post. This game is still a work in progress but any feedback taken will be used to make improvements even if it’s not much but it should give an idea of the game. Please keep in mind that I am the sole developer of this game.

I thank you for taking the time to read this and have a good day.

Meh, everything feels out of place. It’s trying to be realistic but the cars don’t fit and especially that big window. You really have to work on the visuals & building, it doesn’t look too good. I rate it like a 5.3/10

This style is very inconsitant in a lot of things here are some of my issues.

  1. Each window type have diferent colors inside.

  2. All lights are not the same color, make them slightly closer to white.

It should be more around here

Thank you for the feedback. Just to clarify that the game takes place in modern times hence why the cars are there. The latter stages (Stages 3 through 5) in the town story will have more modernish environments considering the game takes place in the 21st century.

I’m doing a blend of historic and modern environments in this game but only the 1st and 2nd stages will have Victorian era architecture. I could however move the prop cars into the stage 3 & 4 areas since the stage 3 & 4 areas will be made to have a more modern looking appearance.

I’ll also look at making any necessary changes to the visuals of the buildings. I’ll continue to get some more work done on Stage 2 then make some necessary improvements to the details of both stages. After this, I’ll look at moving onto stages 3, 4 & 5.

Thank you for the feedback also. I’ll make sure to make adjustments to the lighting but like I say, the game is set in modern times but only the historic environments will be featured in the 1st and 2nd stages.

I could however maybe put a market in the street and some carriages (to maybe make it look like there was a market taking place) but I’ll look at moving the burning car props into stage 3 or 4.

Just to try and make things a bit more clear, I have designed a route map for both the main story and the prologue. That way it’ll make it easier development wise but also give an idea of the routes that will be included.

So I’ve made some improvements to the lighting but I’ve gone and added some details to most of stage 2. (I have a few more details to add before I move onto stages 3, 4 & 5)

I’ve also moved the other vehicle props into the stage 3 & 4 areas. The exception being the car at the start of the game due to it being used to get into the town area at the start of the story (the same car will be featured at the start of the prologue only also).

Note: There will also be prop cars present in stages 3 & 4 to go with the modern theme of the game environment. The environments for stages 1 & 2 will consist of historic architecture whereas stages 3 & 4 will have modern architecture. Stage 5 will be a mix of modern and sci-fi due to stage 5 taking place in the facility.
