Intro
With the new 17+ age rating update, you are now able to do a lot of things like adding alcohol, extreme gore, etc. However nowhere do I see it talking about self harm, which I find interesting as it is arguably less bad then extreme gore/visible organs. Lately I have been thinking about making a game that involves some light self harm (specificly cutting open your hand), however due to nothing about it being mentioned in the new 17+ age guidelines update I am stuck in a position where I do not know if I should actually make this game. So I would like everyones opinion, and in this post I will go over some arguements on why this could possibly be allowed.
Why I think it could be allowed
Personally, I have seen some games on roblox that have been way worse then just cutting open your hand, here are some examples.
The Mimic
The Mimic’s new Book 2 Chapter 2’s end cutscene has an character pulling the players heart out, with the heart being clearly visible and highly realistic.
Blood Engine
This game gives you an arsenal of weapons, and then allows you to shoot dummys, the gore is HIGHLY realistic to the point you can see the insides of their body or even see fully through their body.
Russian Roulette
An very unknown game, however has been up for several months now, this is a game where you play russian roulette, I think you get what is wrong here, there is suicide involved, where the player shoots their own head off. However they do have a disclaimer in the description which will be of importance in the next section.
My view
I think self harm should be allowed to some extent, for example unrealisticly cutting open your hand willingly, basically anything that can’t lead to death if they were to do it in real life and that is not extremely realistic. However I do think they should have a clear disclaimer that they have to implement in the game that you do not encourage self harm and that if you do not like this topic, to not play the game.
Your opinion
So that’s it, that’s my opinion on it, but in the end I came here for everyone elses opinion, and maybe even an official Roblox Moderators view on this. (but I highly doubt that will happen.) Do you think it IS allowed or SHOULD be allowed? Please share your opinion!
