SFXR - An easy way to make sound effects

Choose a part and start reading!

Introduction

You must have encountered the one situation where you need a quick sound effect for your game, maybe for your gun or maybe for a coin pick sound Or maybe even for a achievement sound, and your afraid of copyrights of free sound and sound designers do take a bit (But they do hard work as well).

Well no more being stuck in such situations! (drum roll :drum:) SFXR can solve all your problems, designed to make sounds as quickly as possible with pure accuracy and completely random and
Copyright free! [considering that the sound is random] with of course some cool nice settings for nerds (like me).

Installation

Download:

sfxr.zip [Windows x64/x32.zip]
Mac: Sfxr_MAC.zip
Linux: Sfxr_code.tar.gz

Installation:
1.Extract the file to your appropriate location (Quick note this application doesn’t makes a folder so i recommend making a folder to use it, it will work either way but i recommend doing this)
2.Click sfxr.exe

Guide:

You should see something like this:
image

  • Make the sound effect you want by clicking the options in left or clicking randomize
  • Click Export after your ready

The file is saved as .wav by default but we are going to use another quick and handy application to make it .mp3 or .ogg

Get it here:
flicflac-1.10.zip (1.3 MB) [Windows x64]
Flicflac sadly doesn’t has a mac version so you will have to use a third party software to covert it.

Run the application, select your file and change it just in a click!

And just like that you have your sound effects without any worries and for free!

And just like that you saved your Robux and made some amazing sound!

Now note for nerds you can click the levers in sfxr to change the properties of sound.

Credits to grimfang4 for making this awesome application.

Here is a example of a explosion sound that i created and transformed to .mp3

Ayy, that’s cool! Thank you, I will probably use this.

I have edited the post so it explains in a better way and also added a example

This is amazing! Can you please make this work on mac? That would be awesome.

I’ll definitely see what I can do, i think there is a Mac and Linux Version already.

Really? Can you please link it?

Actually, I found the download but it is from a sketchy website

And it is called “BFXR” Is this ok to use?

I believe your on this website

If so it’s safe and you can download the Mac version from there until i edit the post and include all the other versions

Yes. Also are there any good tutorials on how to use this?

SFXR is actually very old (2007) until i found it a few months back and found it very cool you can try searching on YouTube,i might make a tutorial on this today later

Wow. I was recently making a retro game so this could be cool. Did you make this software?

This was made by grimfang4 for Ludam Dare Game Jam and has been open source so there are a lot of ports of it, it’s available on App store and Google Play store as well like a Application

I have added Mac version directly in the post for the linux version i have added the source code that linux users can easily compile

SFXR is good but BFXR is a lot better.

BFXR is definitely better in all respects but I think that for beginners or people who just wanna do some quick work SFXR seems to be better and faster because of its Download size being as less as 50kb
