ShadowMap Questions [Answered]

I looked on the forum for this but didn’t find anything and also tried finding API Reference on Shadow maps on the wiki.
I started a small build to try it out and see that my surface light is not creating shadows when a part is in front of it seen in this pic

I made sure the part was set to cast shadows also, So my question is, is it currently only for sun light and not for other sources of light?

It’s only for sunlight for now.

Only sunlight. Nothing else right now.

Ah ok, thanks hope shadows from lights will be added soon or in the near future

It will be added in phase 3, the last phase.

ShadowMap is definitely superior than Voxel in my opinion.

Here is a screenshot of one of my projects in Voxel Lighting:

The same image Shadow Map Lighting:

You can notice that the shadows look more realistic in the second image.

I can agree, although in some cases shadows become a bit to much/ too dark. There probably is a way to configure it etc, but I didn’t play with it a whole lot , besides this place build. I put it on pause though. I use voxel

Every game is different, so you would have to choose the lighting settings accordingly. In this example ShadowMaps work better. In other examples, it may be the other way around.

True, one of my newer builds looks better with the shadow maps. Like you said it all depends on the theme, the environment etc
