Sharks and Minnows Game Advice

Hello,

Recently I have been thinking about spending robux on some ads for my game Sharks and Minnows

As of now the game averages about 500 visits a day. However there are a couple of things that have been bothering me, which I will list below:

  1. Like/Dislike Ratio: For reasons I haven’t been able to figure out, I have received a multitude of dislikes on this game, to an almost break even point when compared with likes. The game does not have any game breaking bugs as far as I know, so if anyone has any ideas behind this I would love to hear them.

  2. Play Time: As of now the play time averages about 5 minutes a person. My only reasoning behind why this is so low, is because of a lack of a concurrent player count (The game requires 2 players or more to start). If anyone has any other ideas on how to bring this up please let me know.

To summarize, I am looking for any ideas that people could throw my way that would allow my game to grow in both player count as well as ratings.

How much robux does the game earn, maybe every month?

I checked out the game and I will say it is decently made and there can be improvements. First of all, the UI overall seems a bit lacking. The whole shop UI seems a bit simplistic for this day and age of roblox. It would’ve looked great back in like 2012-2014 but nowadays, big games usually have the smooth, eye-catching and simplistic UI. Also, the maps seem a bit big and given the amount of time the shark has to catch the remaining players seems too small to actually catch everyone. I’d recommend the timer being on 200-300 seconds (maybe longer), that way the shark has a chance to actually catch everyone if the server had 10 players max (or make the maps smaller).

The classic gamemode seems a big bugged. Once all players reach the other side, it takes a while before the game actually recognizes that fact. I also believe that once a player has made it to the other side, it should prevent them from moving just so everyone would know who already made it in. Since players could just walk out after going in, it could be confusing on who already made it to the other side or break the game potentially. I also believe the countdown timer and all the other text at the top should be black with a clear box background. Having white text with a black outline on a white background, in my opinion just doesn’t look good. You can even leave the white text with black outline, but make the rest of the box invisible so it just shows the text which would make it look a lot better.

For the reason your dislike ratio is low, that could be that players find the gameplay a bit slow. You could increase the walkspeed of the minnows and shark a bit so that it speeds movement up and it doesn’t take forever to walk around the map. I also see the problem that it requires 2 players to play. If someone were to join, they may dislike due to not being able to play. The only solution I could possibly see is to add a bot shark that only shows up if one person is in the server. That way, that one person can play the game while waiting for real players to join. Hope this helps.

There was a popular sharks and minnows game I remember playing in 2012-2013 and it was a fun. It’s good to see the game created again.

Before I say my feedback. I’d like the idea your going for I quite enjoyed playing your game and I feel it has some potential. That being said, I have a few issues and suggestions to bring up that will hopefully help improve your like ratio and overall user experience! :slightly_smiling_face:

I just played the game. After finishing a few maps, I noticed that they seemed fairly the same repetitive designs. I got the minnows easy because I was standing next to shield waiting for the time to start you should possibly make the shark stuck in the middle and wait instill the times goes off and then release that player that’s trying to get the minnows (different maps) featuring the same map could get somewhat boring in a kind of way.

I would consider maybe adding game modes (Easy, Medium, Hard,). You could possibly add like 3 sharks or more depending on which mode they choose to go with this is just a simple idea you could take or not use in your game this is more of my personal opinion. This might keep players in the game and wanting to play those different modes. Try making the lobby more unique it’s kind on the simplicity side, maybe add a obby or a place they can practice or swim seeing different animals in the ocean?

Since it’s more in the ocean, maybe some animals swimming around could be placed, change some of the maps. This includes less repetitive in the maps, maybe have different parts that you’ll normally see in the ocean, and making some of the maps longer instead of having it so small at the start, it’s quite easy to get to the other side making it longer could improve it and the shark won’t catch you very easily.

TL;DR: You should make the shark stay in one area, instill the time goes off seems a little too harsh for new players that join the game. Will die very easily because the shark can come to the shield even when the time hasn’t gone off. However your game is very good at the start it has some good potential and you should continue improving I’d be interesting to play it again, best of luck on your project.
