My game idea would work for all target audiences, its fun for everyone. I’m just wondering aesthetically what I should go for to gain the most profit. I’m not just talking about UI I mean stuff like map design too.
should I go for that brightly colored mush? For 5 year olds?
Depends on the game mostly. Is your game one of those slop simulator games with alot of microtransactions?? If yes then do a bunch of bright lights with high contrast. Else if your game is more passion based or built for older audiences. Then go for the one that doesn’t burn your eyes. You shoudn’t mix these up as if your game is for example a simulator game without much thought put into it. But put a toned down artstyle. It woudn’t appeal to children as much and older audiences don’t wanna play those kind of games which would lessen your playerbase. It works same the other way round
NO. Mass appeal has basically killed the entire entertainment industry. There is no surer path to failure than to try to appeal to everyone and resultantly appeal to no one. Find an audience and make a game just for them.
Just like @Andy_Wirus said, you should just try to appeal to one kind of player and not everyone. This not only makes it easier to plan out the design of your game but also lends you an easier time making decisions relating to your game in the future.
