Should I change the name of my game?

My first games name is Combat Arms. My second game is Combat Arms Reborn. At the time of naming the first version I was completely unaware that there was an actual game called Combat Arms that’s an FPS. I hired a GFX artist, and he suggested the name Combat Arms. I said yeah it’s good so I took it. He obviously knew what it was and made me a thumbnail using the actual games logo. I had no idea at the time. (When I found out I obviously changed the thumbnail but am yet to change the name)

Should I change the name? If I didn’t would there be any consequences?

Is the game off-site? if so yes there can be consequences obviously, copyright issues can get your game banned easily.

Video game titles are not copyrightable, however they are covered by trademark. Trademark laws are primarily set to avoid confusion for consumers regarding the source of a game. So I can’t imagine you’ll face significant consequences by keeping the name of your game. You obviously did not base the game off of combat arms, but you should be wary if your ideas appear too similar with the games, because this may violate copyright terms. Either way, you can always change the name to something similar or completely different.

I would probably change the name since you don’t want to risk being copyrighted. You might also want to change the name so you seem more original but I guess it depends if you really want to do that or not.

As with most gray areas, avoid them.

You should change the name of your game.

You should rename the game to something more original. Just to avoid hate.
