Hi there! Should use Blender rather than Roblox Studio to create items? I’ve experimented with both of these software’s and find it extremely difficult to use Blender and Roblox Studio has its flaws as well. My building style is more of a cartoony and low-poly look. Help would be much appreciated.
There are other software you can use, but may require a license to purchase such as Cinema 4D or 3DS Max. I use Cinema 4D Lite. even though i rarely use any 3d making software
For Modeling...
It really depends on what you want to accomplish. Low-poly builds are usually done in Blender or any other 3D making software you're comfortable using.
I’d suggest using Blender if you’re making somewhat a low-poly/cartoony looks. It can help you and it’s apparently easily to learn, I don’t use Blender myself as I am a old-school builder, but it can be difficult to start off. If you’re making small items such as swords, hats, plants etc, use Blender for that and Studio for building a large scale maps.
For software, it depends blender is a good source to create cartoony builds while roblox studio can do the same. You can work on low poly builds by also using Studio. Generally, all you have to do is use bright colors and the plastic material. Although this artwork can be accomplished in both whatever one is comfortable.
Creating low poly builds it involves Blender since it’s free and easy to learn as long as you practice and watch tutorials. I personally prefer Blender. Because it’s pretty simple to learn how to make. low-poly builds, however you can make low poly builds in Roblox Studio.
I find this topic has been talked about a few times but it’s just using different wording.
If you learn blender you basically dont need studio for making anything, unless you require really specific stuff, i personally use blender for a lot of complex things not only Low Poly.
Ever since I’ve learned how to use Blender, I haven’t made any detailed models in Roblox Studio. Using a third party program allows for so many opportunities that Roblox Studio doesn’t offer to modelers.
Usually the general rule of thumb is to create basic structured models, such as buildings and roads, in studio – while more complicated models such as food or vehicles can easily be modeled in Blender. In my opinion, there is a major difference between modeling and building. A modeler is primarily orientated towards creating models such as weapons and props to be used in a game, while a builder focuses on creating the structure of the build in Roblox Studio.
Programs like Blender or Cinema 4D offer so much capabilities that allow you to produce models of much higher quality than you would in Roblox Studio. If you know how to use these programs, I would highly recommend you start using the features these programs offer to make some awesome models. If you don’t know how to use these programs, you should look into learning how they work.They’re a really powerful tool that can help you immensely in your game development career!
Despite how contrarian this may sound, I largely prefer Roblox Studio.
Even though Blender may be incredibly nice, I still largely choose Studio over Blender on the basis that it essentially has all I need already. If I need to build something detailed that some would go to Blender for, I’d tackle it on Roblox in a clever, methodical type of fashion. For example:
I made the capital of these pillars through vertical cross sections. Someone who uses Blender would opt to go with making these shapes in Blender, but if I know what I need to do to make these shapes, it’s more efficient for me to go through the union-and-negate process in that regard and, in the end, I still come out with the results I like and probably would have come down to if I had used Blender.
