Should I learn building?

Hello! I’m a scripter. Lately, I’ve been woundering if I should learn building aswell. I don’t really like it but well, I would not need to pay Builders / Use Free Models anymore. It kinda sucks if you are not able to build some decoration for your own game.

So what would you recommend me? It may be a little bit of a “waste of time” because I could just continue with scripting in that time and improve.

Hello there, building is one of the key steps to having a game. Yes, you can always use FMs but there are some other methods of what you should do to avoid building and what you should do to learn building. At the end it’s up to you and your pocket. (Money) So first off building is something some people don’t charge much for and others charge a lot for. Depending on the price will usually tell you the quality you should be getting. Scripting brings in some money and if you didn’t want to build I personally would do scripting commissions to make the money and have those people pay some builders. But to learn how to build is all on you and how much you can think inside and outside the box. You have to learn what shapes make up a part, how textures work, color schemes, etc. Over all I would personally go with use you scripting skills and hire someone. It might take a bit to hire someone with elite skills but it will be quicker than learning how to build because you already know scripting. I hope this helped out and best of luck with what ever method you choose!

Yep, I think the problem is that I’m trying to Solo-Dev my game. I’m the scripter, the animator, I’m trying to make the GFX and now I’m trying to learn building, lol.

I would suggest you to watch some tutorial videos. Might as well check out some game and some maps You should also well surf through these forums to see some creations and you’ll get an idea of it. Discover plugins.(but be sure to see whether they are by trusted users)

Honestly, if you do learn Building, I’d recommend learning basic modeling (on Softwares like Blender, Maya, etc) along with it. The Roblox engine isn’t strong enough In my opinion to create quality builds.

Even though most builders use Blender, Maya, C4D etc to make quality and great builds to be used for a whole variety of games, saying that the roblox engine isn’t “strong” enough to create quality builds is false in my opinion.

I do get what you’re saying in that building on studio alone without the use of Blender etc wouldn’t be ideal because of the use of meshes that can further improve the build aesthetically, but you shouldn’t disregard studio entirely aha.

SUGGESTION:

But as others said, start by watching tutorials, speed-builds, and practicing on ROBLOX studio using games, real-life and more as references!

Personally, I didn’t start using Blender until I got used to ROBLOX Studio itself. Though, you can dive in and learn both at the same time! Just take your time with learning how things work, patience is key!

Agreed. Although, I am no beginner.

I found a playlist by this guy called roball and it covers the basic concepts of building. Like there’s some stuff like mesh and unions in there which he will teach you. I know scripting but I was thinking of getting into building after fully learning everything.
