I’ve come across a r15 rig and I’ve been tempted to use and I did and I made this simple render.
Now my question is, should I switch to a r15 rig or continue with an r6? I feel like this rig has more potential but rotating and moving the parts seems a lot weirder and there are gaps in the arms and legs if I move too much and I don’t know how to fix that.
So should I stick to r6 or continue learning the r15 rig?
The second one is r6
They are both good, R15 and R6 are both good, they just have their pro’s and con’s for what your using them for. For example if I were making some military GFX and we had 2 guards holding guns, R15 would suit better for holding guns or showing some sort of animation since it looks very clickable and realistic (but with a Roblox twist) If I were you I would continue with R15 as most groups hiring GFX are usually R15, but its up to you, you seem like a good designer.
Hello everyone! Thanks for all the amazing replies. Im going to learn a bit more about r15 rig so Il be able to use both of them rigs in the given circumstances.
Personally, I’m not a fan of r15 rigs, I Use r6 rigs all the time but if you want to use it, its fine.
If it is paid though you can save money by making the pose in the animation editor plugin in Roblox studio.
I like R6 a bit more, as it’s the classic Roblox animation and it looks more old and clean. R15 isn’t that bad, it looks kind of nice and has more joints than R6 but I still prefer R6.
If you want a realistic look you probably should use R15 for it. If you want a simple or old look you should use R6.
The R15 rig has issues with overlapping geometry, unnecessary parts, bad looking seems.
All these issues came with to the Roblox engine limitations, no mesh deformation.
However you are using 3D software that has mesh deformation.
So the R15 rig is a straight downgrade.
The only way I can see the R15 rig being worth using is by importing already existing Roblox animations if you are making an animation.
I would personally recommend sticking with an R6 rig. The issue with R15 rigs is the fact that the arms mainly the elbow area can make bending limbs stick out. Which is the case on your render here: https://gyazo.com/3e194ea7d64d1450173de3795d2959de
With R6 you can bend the limbs smoothly as if they’re actually bent. I’d never recommend switching to R15 rigs.
I don’t like R6 since it’s more troublesome to bend the limbs, that’s why people usually stick to using 1-2 avatars per artwork while mine sometimes has over 10.
Finding and downloading an R6 rig from a website you’ve never heard of before, importing the textures onto the rig, posing it, being forced to only have 1-2 avatars per work since it’s hard to work with multiple blender rigs. It’s just more work and time-consuming.
With R15, you can just pose as many avatars as you want in Roblox Studio with ease and just import it into Blender.
Not to mention that games are starting to not use R6 anymore, meaning that there’s gonna be more people that want R15 work.
They’re both good though, but it’s better to work with R15 if you’re just not used to Blender.
Hey, I didn’t make this post or anything but would you mind messaging me on the DevFourm with how you make your R15 Rig’s bendable parts not visible like they are sticking out if you know what I mean.
