I think having no graphic will make the icon more interesting to click , but also without text its harder to identify the game , if the icon is changed and there is less of a brand.

I personally prefer either text only or text + tooltip on hover.

If the icon itself is recognizable for your game, then just do that, since the game name appears on the tooltip when you hover, and under/side of the game.
If you think you can’t instantly recognize the game without the text, then add it, this also kind of depends on the popularity of your game, here are some examples below.
Counter Blox has a tiny text at the bottom, just in case someone doesn’t recognize it, but the icon is pretty much recognizable.
Arm wrestling simulator is pretty recognizable, and the icon makes it very clear what the game is.
This go-karting game itself is not that recognizable, since it is new, and there are tons of racing games, so they included the name very large and noticable
