This is a game I started working on quite a while ago — it was meant to be a high-quality roleplay experience. I did most of the building and decoration myself. Yes, I used free house models (most of them without textures), but I put a lot of effort into redesigning and decorating them to give the place its own style.
This was my first attempt at making a game, so some parts might feel a little rough or unpolished, but I learned a lot along the way.
The project ended up being put on hold after my only scripter had to leave due to personal reasons. And working completely solo made it really hard to keep going, especially without help in areas I’m not strong in.
Right now, I’m unsure what to do with it…
Should I just leave it in my library and move on to a new project?
Or maybe use parts of it as a base for something else?
I’d really appreciate any suggestions, honest feedback, or ideas. Thanks for reading!
Alright from what I can see (the screenshots you provided) I can only review the game as an experience, since I cannot spot any underlying features that is present in the game. Well I’d say the environment looks pretty good, the interior design of the building is very well done. One thing I’d say that needs a lot of work would be the lighting, cuz there are a lot of dark spots in the building that should be fixed. If its part of the aesthetic you’re aiming for? I’d still recommend to lighten it up a bit.
Overall I think you were going for a dark medieval themed vibe, which is not bad at all but as much the design is great but you’d players to at least be able to see the map and navigate easily.
I pretty much deleted most of the game mechanisms and scripts—only a few things are working right now, like the doors and gates. And yeah, I totally forgot to include the game link in the first place. I can send it, of course, but keep in mind that the lighting was removed and a lot of things are currently missing. I’ve been trying to migrate the game onto a bigger map, though I haven’t published that version yet. What you’re seeing is basically the very first publish of the game —mainly for myself so I could check the lighting in action as well.
And also, Thanks a lot for taking the time to review it!
You are headed in the right direction, you should see some of my first games.
Don’t make the map too large. That’s a mistake, I been there, I know.
You should work on a new project because that is just the way it works when you are beginning.
However, if you feel you can learn from this project, keep going, just don’t get attached, you can always redo it someday and there will always be more projects to work on.
Roleplay games are a huge gamble, as they heavily rely on players to be there and for them to know how to roleplay.
The map design looks extremely nice and well done! I did notice on the top photo, you can see the void. I recommend maybe putting mountains or something to cover the void.
