Significant FPS drop observed in microprofiler when standing in the same location as multiple other players

In certain servers, when players are standing in the same location, significant drops in FPS can be observed on the microprofiler. We initially received reports of this issue in a gamemode where multiple players are initially teleported to the same location (up to 60 players in one location). The lag would persist for a minute after the start of the gamemode. However, some game servers were not affected by this issue, with no indication of why certain servers were unaffected. We first began seeing these reports over the weekend of August 5th-6th.

With further testing, we were able to reproduce the lag spike with only 3 to 4 other players entering the same location (without respawning the character) in other game servers. We took microprofiles which identified the source of the lag as calls to newStepContacts - Adaptive and stepContacts.

Hey there! We recently identified a change that caused a regression when Humanoids are close to one another/colliding. We have reverted the change. Could you please let us know if you’re still seeing this issue?
