Heya there, I’m in the process of writing down the gameplay flow of my game, and I stumbled upon a question that I couldn’t answer:
Should I have the game be in single-player or multiplayer?
Honestly, I really am not sure. The pros and cons are very balanced between the 2.
On one hand, single-player will allow for a more deep and immersive experience, but on the cost of actual players playing the game in the first place and practically no monetization.
But then multiplayer will allow for many players, but at the cost of immersion and also having to work on way more stuff like leaderboards, syncing between different players, etc.
What are your thoughts? Keep in mind, this is a horror game that I’m talking about.
Multiplayer
Single player

How about both? Like chilling with my friends who totally exist can be a lot of fun, but sometimes I want to actually beat the game for crying out loud so playing by myself is so much better!
Yeah exactly, I’m debating this cause I want to actually be able to play it with my friends, it’s more of a passion project and I don’t expect to get many players lol
I feel like the best approach would be to focus on the single-player version for now, perfect that, and think about the multiplayer version later on.
What do you think?
I would say, from experience, that single-player horror style games are better. Not only does the player have a wider scope of objectives to do, but they also have a more individually respective environment.
Having one person do more in a game can make them play for longer.
Yes, but specifically for roblox this isn’t always the case if what you want is players. Roblox is a very social platform, and single-player games don’t thrive as much on here.
But my goal from this game isn’t for me to have many players, so I think it’ll work out this way for me. Many features require the player to do things at their own pace, which wouldn’t work out with multiplayer servers, so I think I’ll definetly stick to single player for now
