Site chat broken and cannot close

  • Describe the bug. Describe what is happening when the bug occurs. Describe what you would normally expect to occur.

The party tab at the bottom right of my screen is stuck and displays two messages:

{chatViewModel.conversationCount}}

{{chatLibrary.chatLayout.noConnectionMsg}}

  • How often does the bug happen (Everytime/sometimes/rarely)? What are the steps that reproduce the bug? Please list them in very high detail. Provide simple example places that exhibit the bug and provide description of what you believe should be the behavior.

It’s happened all day to me today, haven’t been able to remove it, even after restarting my computer. I experienced it before but it seemed to have fixed itself.

It’s very annoying as I cannot close it.

  • Where does the bug happen (www, gametest, etc) Is it level-specific? Is it game specific? Please post a link to the place that exhibits the issue.

It happens on all roblox.com sites.

  • Would a screenshot or video help describe it to someone? If so, post one.

I also seem to have another tab that I cannot click, but it highlights when I hover over it.

  • For graphics bugs, it is sometimes helpful to know your system specs, especially graphics card.

Won’t have anything to do with graphics, but regardless, I’m using a 1080Ti.

  • When did the bug start happening? If we can tie it to a specific release that helps us figure out what we broke.

It started happening to me today.

  • Anything else that you would want to know about the bug if it were your job to find and fix it.

I am using quite an old monitor from 2003 (1024x768) but I’ve been using it for a while and it hasn’t given me this problem on my new computer, and only a couple of weeks prior, on my old laptop.

I had this issue for a little but now it stopped

Not sure if this is still happening to you, but if it is, you can try adding it onto an ad blocker Chrome extension to hide it for now :slight_smile:

The web chat. I do not want people to be able to contact me realtime. They should PM me when I can respond at my leisure. Always-on communication is extremely counterproductive. Inviting me to parties for playing games is fine, but I don’t want people instant messaging me.

You can turn off the chat in your privacy settings. Let me know if you need any help doing this.

It also disables group wall/forum posting and maybe more (in-game chat maybe?). If it only disabled the web chat it’d be perfect, but I need access to those other features.

We have plans to separate out the settings for platform chat, group walls, and forums, so no worries there. But in the meantime, I think in game chat and platform chat have different settings currently.

Ultimately, we will provide more notification options in chat as well.

Any update on this? It’s been over a year and I still can’t disable the chat UI in the bottom right corner of my screen. I don’t need it, I’ve never had a reason to use it, and I would love to remove it.

In the mean-time, if you have uBlock, add this entry:

www.roblox.com###chat-main

Or some other ad-blocker: just block those “chat-main” elements.

No update on this. The team working on privacy settings has been working on some higher priority features and bugs.
