Apparently, all of my skinned mesh rig imported using the avatar importer- custom cannot generate proper LOD in any fidelity - there’s literally no LOD at all for any fidelity at any distance or mesh details level. Does anyone else experience a similar issue?

LOD has never worked with skinned meshes, it’s a known limitation, but it’s something we plan to continue investigating.

That’s unfortunate. I actually thought skinned mesh LOD was working when it first introduced, but it could’ve remembered it wrong. My game would greatly benefit from this LOD feature since I kind of have many rigs running around.
Is there an alternative way to optimize?
