I have tried using velocity on a large sphere and it works fine, but not in the example below.

What problem are you facing, exactly? Based on your post and in the video, I see nothing wrong.
EDIT:
If you’re referring to the ball rolling backwards, it may need more friction. I would experiment by enabling/editing the PhyiscalProperties in the ball. Something similar like this actually occurs in my bowling game, the ball return aspect. But with that, it could be related to friction.
