[SOLVED] Mouse stuck

Body:

Oh my god, I made the biggest mistake of my life that cost me so much time. I’m posting this here because maybe someone else will go through this and some AI might use this as content to help…

I literally uninstalled and reinstalled Roblox Studio 300 times, restarted my PC, switched accounts — nothing worked. The mouse cursor in the Workspace was stuck as a “pointing up finger” (the clickable cursor), scrolling didn’t work, I couldn’t move objects, and I couldn’t zoom. I tested 300 of my other maps and they were all fine — it was just this one place.

The culprit? A single invisible Frame inside a ScreenGui in StarterGui.

Here’s what happened:

I had a ScreenGui called “Spin” in StarterGui with Enabled = true. Inside it, there was a Frame with these properties:

  • Size: {1, 0}, {1, 0} (full screen)
  • Active: true
  • Visible: true
  • BackgroundTransparency: 1 (completely invisible)

That’s it. A completely transparent Frame covering the entire screen with Active = true was intercepting ALL mouse input in the Studio viewport — blocking scrolling, zooming, and object selection. And because it’s invisible, there’s absolutely no visual indication that it’s there.

The fix was simple: set the ScreenGui’s Enabled to false (or set the Frame’s Active to false).

The key takeaway:

  • Active = true on a GuiObject means it captures mouse input, even if it’s fully transparent.
  • Visible = true + BackgroundTransparency = 1 = invisible but still interactive.
  • Enabled = false on the parent ScreenGui disables everything inside it, including input interception.

If your cursor suddenly turns into a “pointing finger” in Studio and you can’t interact with the Workspace, check your StarterGui ScreenGuis — especially ones that should be disabled but aren’t. Look for any Frame with Active = true, Visible = true, BackgroundTransparency = 1, and a full-screen Size.

I hope this saves someone from reinstalling Studio 300 times like I did.

PS: The worst part is that, given my workflow, I always keep the frame disabled
