Some profile information not visible / available when logged out

A somewhat recent update appears to have made the following information no longer visible on profiles when not logged in:

  • About
  • Friends
  • Groups The User Is In
  • Collections

The above information simply does not even attempt to load when the current user is not logged in. This is problematic as this information (particularly “About” and “Groups”) is useful for users who may not have Roblox accounts to discover more about the creators behind top experiences on the platform. It also creates an unnecessary hurdle for users who may have logged off and just want to check something on someone’s profile. “About” is also a bit extra deceptive as the header still appears albeit the contents are entirely hidden, implying the user has not set an “About”.

Notably, the “friends” page which is found after clicking the number of friends on a users’ profile, leads you to a nearly blank page which does not list the user’s friends but instead only has two options, either to view “followers” or “following”.

I understand if hiding friends is somehow an intentional change (given that one of the underlying APIs requires authentication) but it would be highly preferable if this were not the case as; as of currently, it serves as a weird discreprency between authenticated users and unauthenticated users on the profile page. There is theoretically no reason why this needs to be the case.

Expected behavior

I expect this information to be visible to users, even when not logged in. At least to my knowledge most of this information was available to non-authenticated users in the past (unsure about collections but pretty sure the rest was); this information can be important to unauthenticated users and even if it were not, it is a bit annoying to have to log back in to just to view someone’s friends, groups or about section.

Pretty sure this was a bug for several months, except no one bothered to report it lol

The bug can still be replicated.

Thanks for the report! I filed a ticket in our internal database.

Hi there Abcreator, thank you for reporting this! There’s some information here that doesn’t seem to be a recent change but you make good points about usefulness of it. Our team will look into logged out profiles at a later point in time and figure out how we want to show some of this information. Once again, thank you for flagging this
