"Spam" Warnings

I was recently warned because I said “Thank you very much”, I only said this message 1 time and I was still warned for “Spam”. I saw that it was against the rules and I thought this is dumb. Saying “Thank you very much” to someone who helped me solve an issue I had for 2 days shouldn’t be against the rules. I understand if someone Replys to every Reply with “Thank you” It would be considered spam, But if it only said 1 time I think it should be accepted.

I wanted to get everyone’s opinion on the “Spam” rule.

It’s spam and that won’t change. Use the like () button to express thanks, or privately message the user.

Allowing ‘Thank you’ posts would simply be abused and would be a nebulous question to answer on a case-by-case basis for DET; with quite a lot of people here, give them an inch and they take a mile.

It isn’t accepted because you aren’t adding anything new to the current topic and it creates more “clutter” for people to scroll through when reading. That’s what the like button is for. I’m assuming by “warning” you meant feedback? Feedback is just a little reminder and isn’t anything serious.

I dont understand why people think that you should just use a like, personally I think its okay to say thank you but why does my opinion matter lol. Some people care about the rules and make it their duty to enforce them for some reason though.

Because that’s what the feature is for. You’ll find rules like this on a lot of modern (read discourse) forums; it helps reduce clutter if the topic does go on, and for readers.

For a reader, a ‘Thank You’ isn’t very helpful. If you do want to make someone’s day explaining of how much they helped you, you are still welcome to privately message them with your thanks.

That is to avoid clutter just incase theres an important bug or something needs to be moderated.

ohhh i didnt realize that happens, in this case i agree then

nevermind sorry, i never realized that it brings the topic back to latest

The spam rule is applied because: saying thanks brings the topic back to the latest, and instead of being a useful reply, it’s just a thanks. Why not  replies instead? It still means, “Thanks”, “I support this reply,” “I like this post.” and etc.

It depends on what you said.

As a rule of thumb, only make a post if it really contributes to the topic and is worthwhile to read or write in its own right. Simply agreeing with another post could be done with a like.

Maybe you don’t understand, but a lot of the moderators (or whatever they’re called) think it’s a good idea. As long as your in this forum you have to follow the rules or you’ll probably get kicked.

But honestly, if you made your own forum you can enforce your own rules, but otherwise as long as your using something you have to follow their rules/TOS. IMO I think your right about the thank you thing, but I see the other side of it to. Anyways I would rather have a topic filled with helpful things then one with useless things, so practically it makes more sense to consider those posts as spam.

Oh no I agree now I didn’t realize the topic comes back up to the latest but some normal members enforce the rules, instead of letting the mods do their job

Yah that’s called mini modding (if they act like mods when they aren’t) i’m sure people aren’t allowed to do that, I think there’s a rule against that i’m not sure though.

Yea that would be off-topic/spam

That is the purpose of the ()
If you read the guidelines, there should be a category saying 'No spamming"
If you agree, heart it.
If you encourage it, heart it.
If you like it, heart it.

And… that’s the purpose of the heart.
