This update included a full rewrite of the Specter 2 codebase. So while we have made a lot of changes in 2.0, one of the most important things to keep in mind is this new codebase allows us to more easily implement new features in the future and fix bugs when they occur. This is just the beginning, we have a lot planned for the near future.
Content

Gameplay
- Ghost events are now more likely to occur if none have occurred recently. Difficulty affects the rate at which they become more likely, with the fastest rate increase on easy mode, and no rate increase on insanity.
- The ghost is now more active during hunts.
- The ghost becomes significantly more active when the average team sanity is low.
- Sanity degradation rates have been adjusted.
- Events/evidence can now be found around the entire map instead of only around the ghost’s current position. The ghost is more likely to interact with nearby objects.
- The chance of the ghost responding to spirit box questions now increases with each failure.
- Freezing breath has been removed, the thermometer is now required to determine if the temperature is freezing.
- The ghost now has a chance to throw objects at the player instead of in a random direction, if you are hit, your screen will blur temporarily.
- Hiding no longer requires manually walking inside the hiding spot, but takes time to enter.
- Light switches can no longer be activated through walls.
Equipment
- Arm now moves up/down with all equipment instead of only the flashlight and camera.
- Ghost Goggles now toggle the lens neon effect when turned on/off.
- Candles that are lit can now be picked up, but must be placed or dropped before switching equipment.
- Thermometer is now significantly slower to update the temperature when not upgraded. Both level 1 and 2 upgrades increase the update speed, instead of update speed and “accuracy” respectively.
- Placing range has been lowered to prevent placing equipment where you can no longer retrieve it.
- Spirit box now has audio responses for most questions/answers.
- Motion Sensor takes 4 seconds to place and setup, instead of instant activation. You will not be able to move until setup is finished, and the sensor can not be picked up while being set up.
User Interface
- Most menus have received a redesign.
- Scaling consistency improved for all devices.
- All outfits/equipment/vans can now be previewed in inventory before they are unlocked.
- Outfits and vans now display their origin.
- Characters/equipment/vans with new available skins have an alert in inventory until they are viewed.
- Photo page in journal now displays the photographer, and whether the photo contains the ghost or a body.
- Added an indicator when you are spotted entering a hiding spot.
Bug Fixes
- Premium shop now checks for gifted passes when going to purchase.
- Amethyst, Fire Fortune, and Jade Fortune motion sensors no longer clip into wall when placed.
- The ghost can no longer get stuck on the server. As a trade off, this may result in what appears to be a teleportation of a small distance on the client if the server and client positions desync by too much. We have done our best to optimize this system, but it does leave players with low bandwidth networks at a disadvantage.
- Your character no longer rotates in the direction of the camera when viewing video feed.
General Improvements
- The tutorial has been replaced by pop-up notifications that explain the game as you play. This version of the tutorial can be re-enabled in settings after your first session.
- Placing has been made more performant.
- Throwable objects are now slowly lifted up before they are thrown.
- The server performance of the ghost has been improved, resulting in more effective pathfinding. Looping ghosts is now less effective, and may be impossible depending on the location, ghost speed, and whether or not you are sprinting.
- Maps now support day/night cycles. Currently only Village has a cycle.
- Moved the bone spawn in Family Home Garage to Basement Closet.
- Moved the bone spawn in Luxury Home Guest Bedroom to Bedroom Closet.
- Hunt music scales in volume by distance from ghost.
