Okay, so recently I started building in Roblox studio, but I’ve only been building houses. I’m wondering if I should just keep building houses and stuff or if I should start building maps. I also don’t know if I should practice building in low poly or medium poly. What would be the best way for a new builder to get going and practice for commissions? Or should I not be worried about commissions right now?
I would recommended to start using reference pictures and analyze the details and when you got the base of it done start to add more detail And maybe analyze other builders builds ( Not copying )
Thanks! So I should keep working on small projects?
Keep working on small projects, and slowly move on to bigger and bigger ones. I suggest creating small objects, then move to bigger objects until you get to the point of creating entire maps! It takes time.
As for references, a great tool to use is PureRef, it’s free and a good way to have references always on hand!
Thank you! This helps me a lot.
Yeah your should keep working on small projects! Good luck.
the only way I could properly describe this is through example
I want to model this salt shaker
first step of this process is to stop thinking about building a salt shaker, you first have to break this down into primitive shapes like triangles rectangles circles yada yada heres a visual representation
take a look at this analysis, red strokes are circles, blue strokes are rectangles/straight lines, and green strokes are triangles/slanted lines
these are the same shapes that roblox’s default parts use and if you’re able to distinguish the shapes in your mind you’re able to construct this salt shaker very easily
also, references are a generally good idea, but they arent good by themselves
you need to use this type of deconstruction and analysis and turn complex shapes into primitive parts which you can easily translate to roblox parts, this is also applicable to blender if you ever want to branch out to 3d modelling
heres a cool video that explains this topic better than I do
in terms of how you should optimally start
in my personal experience there is no optimal style or things to build to start your building journey, just try to build what you love!!!
