After the Roblox update on August 16th, the game Steep Steps has been crashing on 2 of its maps, “Grassy Grounds” & “Wild West” [linked below]. Below are the symptoms:
Server side abruptly freezes, causing players to disconnect without any way to discern why (Any and all server networking drops out)
Symptoms started after a Roblox update on Wednesday [16th], where we saw a reduction in Memory Usage but this also coincided with the crashes
Crash Rate and Server Heartbeat Analytics don’t seem to record anything out of the ordinary either
In order to reproduce the bug, join the main game, then open the menu to join Wild West. The game will freeze within 30 min.
This ONLY happens on those 2 places, and not on the starting place.
We have identified the root-cause for this freeze and have prepared a fix. The fix will be deployed in next week’s release (version 592) of the game server, and will be enabled ASAP. Unfortunately, due to the nature of the underlying bug, this issue is not possible to fix without a new release. The underlying bug is very complex and we are not currently aware of any workarounds.
We will keep you updated on the status of the fix.
We are currently deploying the fix for this issue. So far everything looks good and the issue appears to be fully resolved in the new version. The fix will be fully deployed once server version 592 finishes deploying across the fleet. Thank you for reporting this issue, and let us know if you’re still seeing any freezes in a day or two.
